SupraTRD83
when the car is stationary what should the coolant level be at? low or max? and will it need water (cold) plus anti freeze?
stevie_b
It can be anywhere between those two levels. I'd recommend keeping it nearer to max than min, just because it gives you more margin for error, but don't overfill it. Also, check it when the engine's cold. The coolant will expand and give you a false reading otherwise. Definitely don't open the coolant filler when the engine's hot! Edit: you can use tap water in an emergency, but if at all possible, use ethylene-glycol coolant diluted with battery water (it's much purer than tap water, and won't fur up your cooling system: think of kettles in hard water areas! ) Edited February 18, 2009 by stevie_b (see edit history)

hadyn
How much coolant that is in the rad is the ultimate guide to your coolant level. If the coolant level is upto the neck on the radiator when the engine is stone cold, you're OK
