Window Lickers

Just been home to collect the post, and cant believe what i just saw.........over the past few weeks i have noticed a fair few folk, especially women !! (no offence) sitting really close to the steering wheels.

It actually cracks me up when i see this cos it just looks daft, but this morning, i was sitting about 75 on the dual carriageway, and out pulls this new style clio from a petrol station right in front of an arctic in the inside lane, which then had to slam on his brakes, causing him to lock-up and drift towards MY lane and me in my van ! (Thank god not the Supra)

Thank god he got control and came back into his lane, and my heart dropped out of my throat........and i continued down the outside lane, alongside the Clio.........which was now sitting about 40mph in a 70 limit, with an arctic right behind her........and to my amazement i see a woman in her 40's sitting literally RIGHT UP AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL, seat adjusted as far forward and upright as possible, seatbelt stretched to the max, with the steering wheel raised up right in front of her chest.

Surely to god this cant be safe ?? I mean if she had a head-on collision theres no way in hell she wouldnt get hurt or killed by that coming into her chest / abdomen. She was honestly like 2-3inches MAX off of the steering wheel, and more to the point TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS to what had just happened, staring with maximum concentration about 5 feet in front of her car gazing at the road in front of her, Driving along at 40mph quite the thing, having just pulled out without even looking into the path of a 15+ Tonne fully loaded arctic.

This REALLY REALLY gets me angry, cos its dumb stupid ignorant people like this who are the cause of a lot of extremely bad motorway accidents, and they dont even realise the peril they cause !! :complain: :complain: :complain:

Unbelievable that people like this are actually sitting so close to a steering wheel and yet there is nothing to say its dangerously close.......yet you get a £40 fine if you dont wear a seatbelt !!

Rant over lol. :woot:

LOL

I know exactly what you mean. When I see someone and yes usually a femle of some description (or of a slightly senior disposition) - usually with outdated hair style, or a young possibly newly passed lady, sitting right up close to the window, half of me laughs and the other half thinks OMG - car control - not a chance!

Yet the joke is - that person with their clio or whatever is probably on a really cheap insurance premiums etc.

Ideally insurance companies should use independent advisors to assess every individual in question for insurance quotes. But then we are all meant to have passed our tests to a certain standard......apparently :complain:

I know what you mean, it's normally old people leaning as close to the window as possible, as if them being 20cm further ahead is going to make a blind bit of difference travelling at 30mph+

Did I hear something on the radio about yearly tests for old people yesterday?

My sister sits really close to the steering wheel in her little fiesta, to be fair though she is really tiny and that is the only way she can touch the pedals :p

Exactly the point I was going to make, these women are probably about 5 foot tall!!! No point having your seat nice and far back if you can't reach anything!

Good point, but it can't be true for all of them surely???

Still can I question car control?? I just can't work it out in my head :rtfm:

Oh well....I support yearly tests for senior citizens

In fact I'd be happy to resit my test every 5 years or something, but I am odd like that!

Not only is sitting that close to the wheel dangerous its downright stupid - see it all the time mainly young girls.

There is actually a warning with airbags not to sit too close, should be in all manuals..........

If the bag went off (don't forget its an explosion) that close to the person it can crush all their ribs or snap their neck like a twig.

They are completely oblivious to everything though and as you say are the cause of accidents and they don't even know. Should be methods of reporting these people, not fit to have a licence...........

It's boy chavs too! They don't even have their seat forward but they lean forward miles and kind of hang off the steering wheel in an ape like fashion.

It's called "the Cripple Hook". Very handy for sharp ninety degree turns round the council estate.

Another variation is where the young charver rests his forearm on the centre of the wheel with the wrist draped over at the 12 o'clock position. Known as "The Python"
