chp03bcd
I have an intermittent crackle that comes from what sounds like all the speakers. It doesn't happen all the time but has seemed to be happening more frequent of late. If i turn the radio on it stops, even with no volume. Any ideas how i find out what it could be and/or fix it?! MA70
If I understand correctly you are saying the crackle only happens when the radio is off. The first thing you need to do is confirm the sound is coming from the speakers/stereo system. Disconnect the speakers from the amplifier or head unit and see if the noise still occurs. If it does stop it is likely that something is going wrong inside the amplifier or head unit. Your only real options are to take it to specialists (£££), Buy new units (£££), or find someone with some spare units who will allow you to try them for a while. Sorry that’s not very encouraging but without detailed, hands-on, knowedge of your system there isn’t much more advice that can be given. monsween
is it when you stop eating crisps too? sorry, im no help at all
chp03bcd
It also started crackling when i turned the sidelights and headlights on this evening?! I'm pretty sure the sound is coming from the speakers and i'm almost 100% sure it's not crisps either(!) I'm not the most confident of people when it comes to fiddling with the car as the chance of me cacking it up usually outweighs the chance of me fixing the problem - how easy it is to get to the back of the stereo (stock Jap one) or speaker connections? monsween
sounds like some electrical interference of some sort messing with the speakers if its coming on when the sidelights and headlights are on. a crossed wire or earthin problem. I could be wrong but if its that will be tricky to find
chp03bcd
Yep that's what i thought but was hoping someone would be able to point me in the direction of a nice easy solution as this sounds like it could get expensive.
chp03bcd
Just a brief update incase anyone else has this problem. Got it fixed, was apparently a problem with a faulty aerial relay. I don't pretend to understand everything the mechanic said but i have crackle free driving from now on so i'm happy.
Guest thr33king5
Thanks for the update. I'm having the same problem on mine since i got my new headunit and speakers fitted. Im happy to hear its only a minor problem, im guessing it wasn't very costly? I'll have to get mine back down the garage soon to get it sorted as its really starting to annoy me now! chp03bcd
Not sure what to say about the cost... I took it to a Toyota dealership (££) and they spent a lot of time looking for the problem (££) so the labour costs soon added up (££££)! The actual fix was a simple disconnection of the aerial relay (i never listen to the radio so not a problem for me to not have it). I guess if you can point them in that direction right away you might save yourself some money so long as it's the same cause of your crackle! merckx
a problem with a faulty aerial relay. Relay! Not an obvious fault.
