Guest vr4much
93 N/A Mk4 I just noticed a knocking noise over bumps on my drivers side I'm assuming it's a ball joint How expensive are they and am I suppose to change both the ball joint and both tie rods or will the joint do ? Thanks
Guest vr4much
I just jacked up the car and shook the whole wheel up down left and right, there is no movement, so it can't be a ball joint... Tie rods ?? how would I check for a bad tie rod, other than the clunking sound over bumps while driving ?
Jellybean
Did you check the Bushes on the Wish bones?
Dnk
It could be a shock absorber (damper) on its way out, when one of my rears failed it made a knocking noise so worth checking them as well.
Supra-Brett
Yep, i agree, could be a shocker, mine did exactly the same thing. I had a knocking noise over bumps and handling was terrible. Jack it up, no movement, bounce the rear end and all seemed fine too, even when the shocker is off it still seems fine, but with new ones on the car now there is no knocking noise and handling is great. Guest vr4much
would there be any way to test if it's a bad shock absorber? I'm also strongly leaning towards sway bar links
