Homer
I had a ceiling plastered about 8 months ago and am now only getting round to painting it, is the special base coat still needed considering how long since it's been done? It's in a fully heated part of the house so should be completely dried out by now, but not sure if the base coat for new plaster is still needed, any advice welcome! Mike
I always give it a coat of diluted glue stuff to seal it before I paint... except it's been so long since I did it I can't remember what the glue is!?

Paul372
always water the paint down abit or buy some cheap thin emulsion on the first coat of paint on newish plaster, it will suck it striaght up
Alex
I've always been told to do a couple of watered down coats of paint (std white paint) and let them seal the plaster. Then paint on top. I've had no issues doing this and when a plaster tells me this is the way to do it I tend to listen!
caseys
Painted a room of mine the other day that was still freshly plastered. A friend who's a decorator advised me to mix 10% water into a one-coat white emulsion. So bought 5 litres of Dulux Once white matt and seemed fine. Supragal
I always do a PVA wash then just paint although you could do a coat or 2 of watered down emulsion
Ark
Brilliant website for stuff like this: http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/when_to_paint_new_plaster.htm I would go with the water-diluted base coat personally.
Alex
I thought PVA was for getting plaster to bind to the wall to start with?
