SteveL's (Garage Whifbitz) Supra race car build

Bit of an update on Steves car.

The car has been fitted with one of our proven twin wastegate manifolds to further improve spool up over our single wastegate version. This time we will be using 2 Turbosmart Compgate 40mm wastegates, these are the new smaller version and as you can see from the pics below they are very compact and lightweight. They also have a screw on top to make it easier to change the wastegate spring if needed.

The car is also having a turbo back titanium side exit exhaust system made. Consisting of a 3.5" downpipe and midpipe which will then split off with the tailpipes exiting in front of the rear wheels through the side skirts. Should look very trick and especially good with flames spitting out of both sides! It will also be a lot lighter than the previous stainless steel exhaust along with moving the weight inside the wheelbase. And it will make it easier to fit a rear diffuser to the car when the time comes. Pics and more details to come on this as soon as I have them.

We will also be fitting one of the Borg Warner EFR turbos when they become available, cant wait to try these out, more details on this when I have them.

Thanks

Paul

Garage Whifbitz Wet carbon fuse box cover, as you can see from the pictures it has some slight blemishes in the laquer, will hardly notice when its on the car though, £100.

PS. This not the cheapo rubbish you can buy on ebay for £20!

Any questions just ask.

Thanks

Paul

Steves car is now back with us in preparation for this years racing. The big news is Steve will be competiting in the Eurosaloon championship this year, http://www.eurosaloons.co.uk/. Pretty sure this is the first MK4 Supra competing in circuit racing in the UK? We will be up against Escort Cosworths, Imprezas, EVO's, Ginettas, Marcos, TVR to name but a few, so its going to be a tough challenge.

The car itself is just be refined rather than changed in any major way.

New for this year is:

1. Garage Whifbitz side exit exhausts, this is 3.5" from the turbo back and splits off into 2x 2" exits out each side. A few reasons for doing this, better weight distribution moving the weight between the axles, it leaves a nice clean rear end for a future rear diffuser and to be different which is hard to do these days

2. Garage Whifbitz twin wastegate/scroll manifold to improve spool up over the previously fitted single wastegate manifold

3. FIA approved rear rain light

4. Rota Boost 9x18 and 10x18 alloys. We need 3 sets of wheels for dry slicks, wets and intermediates and this is the cheapest option by far, they should look pretty as well

5. Accusump to hopefully eliminate any oil starvation http://www.accusump.com/ and much cheaper than a dry sump setup

6. Cobra FIA approved seats, pictures to follow on these

I'll update with some more details and pictures very soon

From the pictures in the thread it appears Steve's car is running the OEM wishbones and control arms.

Will these make full use of the slick tyres or are there upgrades on the horizon?

We weren't planning on it but see what happens, this will be the first time we've run a car on slicks so its new territory for us.

You don't think that slicks on 10" wheels might give a little too much grip (if there can be such a thing!?!)

Might be worth tapping the 'nums for info, since they've run slicks on circuit many times, albeit trackdays rather than race days.

Never to much grip mate, the more the better I would say.

9x18 front and 10x18 rear yar.

How much did those slicks set you back, I cant wait to hear the feedback on the difference in grip levels, I bet its a huge difference

Any chance you can weigh the wheels with and without tyres?

Steve found someone with a shed load of used tyres, worked out well cheap. Plenty of used tyres around, just need to get on to loads of teams who run the tyres and see what they have.

I'll weigh them tomorrow if I get a chance, they aren't anywhere near as light as the Advans we normally run but they are a fraction of the cost.
