suzuki gsxr or ducati 748

The Ducati has a lot of kudos, but to be honest unless your really "on it", the gixer will be a better bike for 95% of the time. The 916-998 range, and the 748 are very focused bike's, and are really no good around town. It will depend a lot on what you want to use the bike for, and your skill level, the Ducati will not flatter you, or help you along, the gixer is a much better all rounder, it will scratch, and to an extent, tour.

Ive not ridden a 998, i have rode a 996 and thats no quicker then a top end 600cc jap bike imo.

I have to disagree....

It's just that a jap bike is screaming its t*ts off so you think you are going quicker than you actually are.

The only thing bad about all the ducatis I have had is that it feels like your a*se is on fire if you have to sit in traffic..

And the clutch rattling away ha ha ha yes ones bottom does get a bit HOT in traffic, thats why for a day to day bike I would stay clear :) gsx-r all the way

Ive not rode a modern ducati but a few years ago they was never any competition for the jap bikes, I remember my mate dave woods getting a 996 senna and he could never get an inch on the G2 ZX6R's that a few of the lads had, i would leave it for dead on my R1

Dukes have better cornering due to the V engine which balances the bike out on the bends. But get on a straight and they will be watching the GSXR disappear into the sunset.

Who in their right minds compares a 600cc to a 1000cc bike. Like comparing a Civic type-R to a Zonda !!!!

Too be honest the two bikes in question I think would be pretty much on an even par on a striate line blat, I'd say the duke would pull away a lot faster than the gixer then the gixer would soon catch it, depends what gearing they have really I always have mine geared for low down speed as I like my wheelies, I'm not one for top speeds I like 0 to 100 pull away :) The ducati will be a whole different riding experience so if you want something diff go for it mate.
