hiten55
I own a newsagents in a london hospital that specialises in cancer treatment. and although i sympathise with her and her family a part of me is relieved that we dont have to see a "goody story" on the front pages again. dont get me wrong, its sad for anyone to get cancer and i really feel for her kids having lost their mum on mothers day. i even admire her for screwing the press for all she could get. even though they were so two faced (one minute they rip the pi$$, the next they find out she has cancer and are all over her). But, so many of the patients, doctors, and visitors said they are sick of it. like she's the only one in the world suffering. it actually upset a lot of terminally ill people who have done a lot more for this world then appear on tv and in the media. i know its cruel, but i can see a lot of positive comments comming my way tomorow

hogmaw
Well said... Many of us have lost close family to the big 'C' and seeing her on tv every day was like watching a soap. Glad it's all over. You and a lot of other people are missing the point. Jade Goody's plight was not just about Jade Goody. It served to remind us all of the devastation that cancer can bring. If it wasn't for Jade Goody being 'plastered over the media' every day, then perhaps many of us wouldn't think of donating to a cancer charity, or of the many people suffering who deserve our thoughts. Cervical cancer screenings are up 21%. That would not have happened without this coverage, and the people that will benefit from this could be someone in your own family. Something positive from the negativities of A-Z celebrity status.
johnny g
You and a lot of other people are missing the point. I have to disagree here... Jade Goody's plight was not just about Jade Goody. It served to remind us all of the devastation that cancer can bring. If it was, then why not donate all the money or a percentage of it to the cancer charities? No, it goes to her family. She whored out her last months to the highest bidders. 1 in 3 people are touched by cancer - it shouldn't be needing press promotion. I bet a lot of us already donate - either by monthly payments or TV appeals. All that's happened here is that a new phase of women getting screened has become "vogue". I bet in 6 months, it's back to what it was. I have a niggling feeling that the young women taking the screenings are in it for time off, it's the skiver society we live in. I do hope I am hugely wrong on that, but it's a niggling thought I have.
hogmaw
You don't know for a [fact] what happens to the money. As it happens, it's been reported that it will go to her children. I see nothing wrong with that, it's better than them sponging off the state for the next 10-15 years? Yes of course lots of people donate, and now a whole lot more will. Skiving? Now you're just being cynical. Screening saves lives, simple as.
johnny g
Skiving? Now you're just being cynical. Screening saves lives, simple as. I am being cynical - but society has made me that way. Can you 100% say it's not just a phase? Screening does save lives, no question - but once we're out of the Jadeathon, do you still think it'll be 20% up? Oh and I just thought - if it was going to the cancer charities, then Max Clifford would have been over that like a rash.

Think for yourself, don't let 'society' sway your better judgement and turn you into a cynic. Yes it may well go down from 20%, but it may yet go up too. And even if it does go down, it's unlikely to be worse than it was. I agree it would have been great PR for cancer charities if she had been seen to put some of that money into one of their charities, the very people who have been helping her through this. You can't win em all.
Chris Wilson
Almost UNBELIEVABLY the Tesco in Whitchurch announced a minutes silence this afternoon, in memory of this woman. A near riot at the tills and the ridiculing of the manager turned them back towards sanity and business continued as normal (poor stock levels, and a competition between the customers and staff as to who can look the most inbred )
Jamesy W
Jade Goody was an @rsehole, but I stil feel sorry for her. She took her opportunity and made a shedload of cash out of it. It was a shame to see daily updates on the front of every news paper, but hey-ho her kids are better off for it. Now who fancies starting a Kerry Katona sweepstake? Charlotte
Sad news. For anyone to have to deal with mother's day without a mum is bad enough, let alone your mum dying on that day. I don't understand this 'there are sadder cases' argument. EVERY cancer case is sad. Most are affected by it and it's horrible for everyone involved. If she wanted to play out her last few weeks like that fair enough. I wasn't interested in reading about it and seeing it on tv, so I ignored it. She may have had money in her last few years of life but her life was pretty crappy. That's by the by, she was 27, that is no age to die. Max Clifford is a business man - of course he will make a situation better for himself. I guess some people don't realise that his wife of 40 years died of cancer a few years ago, I'm sure he does his bit for the cause.
mathew
Almost UNBELIEVABLY the Tesco in Whitchurch announced a minutes silence this afternoon, in memory of this woman. now that imo is a complete p1ss take! i usually go about my shopping pretty quietly but if that came over the tannoy whilst i was there id make an effort to make a noise in my own personal protest against it. this is jade goody we are talking about not mother frickin theresa! going off topic slightly my mate has just said people should have had sympathy for her kids from day one due to their looks and not now just becuase their mother has died. Vicky
I myself lost my mum a couple of years ago to cancer, i feel for her children and family as days like today can be hard. If her story being in the papers saves just 1 life then its worth it.
_Lynz_
This is such a shame, I liked Jade and having followed her story for the last six months think she is a very brave women who has just tried to do the best for her boys. I can't imagine what they are going through and it is so sad that they lost her today of all days. RIP Jade:(
Ewen
There have been a lot of sad film star deaths recently, according to my mother in law tonight. As well as Jane Goody, there was Keith Ledger, Jonathan Ross and Vanessa Redgrave. Tragic all. The Redgrave family curse apparently started when a great-grandmother Redgrave (who was from Ireland and spoke Garlic) cradled her baby after a long shift in a frozen fish filleting establishment in the 1900s. The baby died of consumption and the family has had problems ever since. Where does she get all this from. I'll give it another Christmas then start researching care homes. SupraGirlie
If her story being in the papers saves just 1 life then its worth it. The amount of awareness for cervical cancer she has created is amazing, the number of women taking smear tests has risen hugely in the last few months, so I am positive she will save many lives because of it. Guigsy
i saw a post on another forum that summed things up quite nicely from my point of view... sure she has done god things in raising the awareness etc. But that doesn't mean she is some kind of godly figure. I heared her compared to princess dianna on the radio today... wtf! The below inst my opinion necessarily however i think it raises some interesting discussion points 1. She faced court action over thousands of pounds of unpaid rent. 2. Just hours after arriving (on Big Brother), she had flashed one of her boobs and left viewers stunned with a torrent of foul language. 3. jade was a figure of ridicule. She was branded a “pig”, two-faced and ignorant. Rival contestants labelled her “thick” and “ugly”. 4. Viewers switched on to watch tipsy jade strip off during a drinking game to flash her “kebab”. 5. She thought East Anglia was called East Angular, and that it was somewhere near Tunisia. And she reckoned Rio de Janeiro was a person. 6. jade kept trotting out the clangers . . . Mona Lisa was painted by “Pistachio”, Mother Teresa was from Germany, Portugal was “in Spain” and “Saddam Hussein was a boxer”. 7. jade put it best herself when she confessed: “I may not be the sharpest tool in the sandwich box.” 8. “If I hadn’t made it on Big Brother I would probably have been living in a council flat with my mum.” 9. Lapping up the publicity, she once told a reporter she planned to dedicate a room in her house to all her front-page covers. 10. She started dating Jack Tweed. jade had spotted him in a nightclub before, but had no idea he was six years her junior. She was smitten from the start, and the couple had sex on their first date at London’s Sanderson Hotel. 11. Their romance was to be played out in the full glare of the public when they both went into the Celebrity Big Brother house in 2007—joined by jade’s mum Jackiey. But the programme that made jade almost broke her this time as she became embroiled in a race row with Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty. She ranted at the actress: “You’re not some princess in f*****g Neverland. I don’t give a s**t. You’re a normal housemate like everybody else. You need to come to terms with that.” She added: “Go back to the slums and find out what real life is about lady.” 12. Later jade confessed she wanted to headbutt the Indian actress and branded her “Shilpa Poppadom”. 13. jade’s popularity nosedived overnight and Ofcom received a staggering 45,000 complaints. Her perfume was removed from the shelves and her autobiography dropped by publishers. 14. She then contracted cancer and turned out to be a ****ing saint.
