I agree that the BMW & Porsche have a similar sound, but the Porsche makes it sound class, the BMW sounds like a broken trumpet

Exactly. It's a much more refined sound. I'll never forget being at the 'Ring one year. I was sitting in the passenger seat of my mates car filming his lap, but had the window open because it was hot.

 

Long story short, we were doing 100mph and were passed by a Carrera GT at WOT about 1 metre from my head. Got it on video too. It was one of the best noises I've ever heard.

if that m5 sound was in something mid-engined and italian then it would sound awesome, but when its coming from a 2 ton luxury saloon it just sounds like its trying to hard. Thats not what m5's are about.

I agree that the sound coming from a 4 door saloon is odd, but you cannot say that the sound is not awesome, I wish the Supra sounded like that.
