paul mac
thanks for the encouragement guys, question, do i still need the throttle damper thingymajig attached to the stock throttle when running an emanage ultimate or aftermarket ecu, i would like to despense with the little ferker as its ruining the aesthetics of my throttle brackets
paul mac
few pics of the progressing throttle linkage, marvel at my wooden rod eye link bar :, i find making mistakes in wood is much less time consuming than making them in metal, last pic the pesky damper, come on guys someone must know whether i need it or not, i'll settle for an educated guess ,
Kirk
Interesting way of mouting the linkage Would it not be easier to do something like mount it to the rail similiar to this?
paul mac
it would have been a piece of p**s and not have been so elaborate but for one word, cruise, the throttle pully and cruise pulley have to work independantly of each other, a few hours trawling the local scrap yard for a suitable linkage yielded nothing, so i used the stock one, i could of mounted it in the same orientation as the stock pulleys but this way meant i didn't have to start shortening the throttle and cruise cables (which looked a pig of a job)
Kirk
Ah yes i forgot you still want luxury aswel Ive actualy started looking at mine again... i turned to the dark side (partly cause they were cheap ) and found some rb26 TBs with linkages for cheap. Basicly just these ( i googled these ones as mine a buried somewhere ) http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/1503/2vj4bbc.jpg There very odd in design compared to BMW i.e. there flat but i cant help but think these maybe much easier to modify onto our engines although i maybe wrong then in which case id sell them on and try and find some better suited ones off a 4A-GE black top. Some thinking is required and apologies for the thread jack Edited August 10, 2010 by Kirk (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
If you can fiddle with ecu mapping you probably won't need the damper. What you will need is good throttle closure as 6 butterflies not closing equally or or near fully will give excess idle air supply or unequal cylinder air supply. Chris Wilson
What does worry me is how you intend to pull vac for the brake servo without a common interlinked miniature "plenum" rail between the TB's on the inlet valve side of the butterflies? paul mac
Swapped the pillar drill for MDF, wood glue and fibre glass resin and made up a former for the lower plenum, for anyone who didn't see my brake upgrade i like to make wooden blanks as test pieces and these prove invaluable in helping identify any issues, unlike the brake caliper mounts this plenum former will be used to shape the aluminium. Got the gaskets cut at the local water jet facility http://www.k-cut.co.uk/, these are the adaptor plate to head gasket and the throttle body to adaptor gaskets, O rings would have been cool but i try and minimise any machining operations as i either pay a fortune or wait weeks while someone does it as a foreigner . The water jet cut is spot on and allows accuracy way beyond hand cut gaskets, it will cut anything (they had ceramic tiles on the machine when i was there) you will need someone to do the CAD drawings for you though. The gasket material is Fluolion white 1mm http://www.jameswalker.biz/jwco/products/fluolion_integra_white_and_blue.html i picked this as it handles up to 260 C, has excellent chemical resistance, compress's well with the low torque of the intake studs and the icing on the cake has excellent thermal insulation properties so between the 2 x 1mm layers should keep a bit of heat off, if anyone wants the CAD drawing for the cylinder head gasket for a phenolic type gasket let me know (i may make one of these at a later date)

Sorry if I missed that bit yes Jay there is, these guys are making me the cone http://www.jasperintegration.com/distribution-plenum.html this is the upper part on mine and would still really be counted as part of the intercooler pipework, check out her for more inspiration http://www.bufkinengineering.com/intake%20manifolds.htm slightly off topic but one thing that has interested me with all the Audi pictures is the amount of trouble these guys took to get an isolated cold air supply to the turbo, i know people have advocated this for years but i am finally inspired to sought my K & N

Chris Wilson
This is similar to the one I did for my turbo Formula Atlantic Toyota 4A-GE engine
paul mac
i have seen those particular pics Chris (i seem to have studied every dual plenum picture i could find ) dont suppose you have any pics of it split do you

paul mac
sorry boys i feel like such a fail with this, i was really enjoying this project and had got as far as mounting the linkage on the cam cover and begining to get the plenum built (i even bought an AC tig) then my faltering marriage really hit the skids, as i'm sure you can guess its all a rather low priority at the moment, i dont know if i am even going to be able to keep the car at the moment as its potentialy a deposit on a new house
