He's a builder

Yes but i would have thought builders would work to the same regs i do? After all when i work for them i have to do the whole 100mm one way 170mm the other?

I guess they cant say there is to much in a loft IE if you cross laid then 200mm?

Just curious.

Wouldn't that make it difficult to see where I could then walk if I cover the joists with it?

Do B&Q do the suits too? Argh I can't believe I'm even considering this, but I am fed up with NEVER being warm and having to wear 2 layers of clothes in my house all the time.

when i insulated my loft i plonked a 6ft board up there and used it to span the joists. made it easier to move about up there.

yes BQ do the suits. dont forget gloves, respirator (ie dust mask), goggles (eyes can get irratable). i was hardcore and done it in a t shirt, spent the next few hours coughing up sh** rubbing my eyes and picking out black bogeys!

I just stuck my head up there. How on earth you're meant to get to the edges I have no idea. I suppose to work out how much I need i just do a rough length/width of house estimation?

Meh, I live in a 1st floor flat, with the flat below me usually empty (It's owned by a certain Govt thing well known in Cheltenham) as the guy is never in, and my heating just contributes to heating the flat above me...

It wouldn't look too good if I nailgunned it to my ceiling either :(
