Mike
Probably the least shocking news of the day
Max Headroom
Why are managers sacked when teams play bad? With players now getting weekly salaries that match a normal person working 10 years, how about a pay cut for the players!! They are the ones playing, not the manager

They are the ones playing, not the manager Because a good manager can make an average player a good player, and a good player an excellent player. Without a good manager, footballers just lose their way, no matter how good they are.

Swampy442
And cloesly followed by Big Phil Scollers off of Chelsea. Football is fucked if a manager/coach only get a few months to turn a team around. Its no shock to learn that the most successful teams in the prem have had their managers for 15 years plus... Angarak
Didnt they (Pompey) recently announce publicly that Tony Adams had their full support? Still, not the first time a club has said their Manager has 100% support from the board, only for them to be sacked a couple days later. Football needs performance related pay, the excuses given for justifying their wages make me laugh. I remember one pro footballer being interviewed, they tried to justify that they where worth £xx,xxx.xx amount per week because their football career is short lived, with many retiring in their 30's. It obviously didnt occur to him that there is no law stopping you getting another job once you quit professional football.
Alex
Pompey recently gave the "vote of confidence" to him...this translates as you have to win your next game or else. I don't think either sacking is surprising, neither manager seemed capable of galvanising his sqaud. Chelsea are falling apart, it shows just what Jose was doing (and making look easy). Charisma counts for an awful lot in management of over paid, limp wristed, ball chasers...it's about all they respond to. You need a manager the players like so much they'll run themselves to death for...and then the manager needs decent tactics too... Martin O'Neil, Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp are the best at that in the league, though I'd put HR behind on tactics...to put Adams in charge was a mistake and it's only highlighted the fragility of Pompey, they have over achieved in general thanks to the previous managers. Felipe was the wrong choice too, he was almost dragged there because of his reputation, but it was a reputation built on a very different (international) stage...I'm convinced that a good national coach is not necessarily a good league coach.
