attilauk
i've got no problem with an ANPR camera network, it should get a hell of a lot of Un-Insured / no MOT / non taxed cars off the road.
Muffleman
Yeah I'm not bothered by it either, however, we realise our insurance costs etc are inflated for those ar*eholes that drive uninsured\MOT'd and so-on, but if this network is a success what will happen ? a) We will all see healthy premium reductions ? or b) Insurance companies will see improved profits ?!? Hmmmm.
terribleturner
b) Insurance companies will see improved profits ?!? It's just the big part of big brother, knowing where you are and when. As you may have guessed im not a fan.
tbourner
Better make sure you don't have any pictures on the net of your number plate as well. Cloned car numbers will go through the roof!!!

Me neither, I really wish they would find something more consturctive to send the taxes of the country on! We are really starting to be monitored a bit to much for my comfort!! BigRoy
Want to know how your medical records will be available to the Police and insurance companies, even employers at the touch of a keyboard! Supragal
All you have to do is drive over 100mph everywhere- thats what the article says.

oxygene
The cameras I saw on the M4 a couple of weeks ago must be part of this as well. Of course we are gonna be targeted by all this, as our cars especially have a distinct speed advantage to other road users! Remembering the story of a milk float being busted for doing 60mph in a 30mph zone if memory serves, I can see speeding tickets being issued that are unfounded. Big Roy, who is it you work for m8...? The whole nanny-state, big-brother thing. Slowly taking away personal choice and freedom.
Guest Rafsen
i dont have a problem with ANPR's and can see their use but i do not think that this is the sole purpose of this govt. There was talk about having trackers fitted to ID cards! Why do you want to do this? to track criminals? well not everyone is a criminal and not everyone wants to be tracked... i dont. I also read that they are testing a new system whereby the speed of a car can be measured (even controlled) via satellites!!!..... Too much power & control is never a good thing- unless its in a car! :kneel:
John_M
So let me see.. You have cameras set at the side of the road that read your number plate and tell the police if you're not taxed/insured/mot'd/stolen/etc. Thats good....... But, what if the cameras are also set up like "specs" to register speeding vehicles? A national speed trap! That's not so good!
BigRoy
I'm not a big conspiracy theory person, but take my job. I'm helping to create a national health care record which will be electronic. So the country will have say 10 data centres holding all your GP records about you. Past medical history, family medical history and all the drugs you have been prescribed. Now of course you will need a smart card to access this via your really secure card swipe keyboard. Only nice people looking out for your health will access this:D However the inland revenue, police, social services, insurance companies and employers will not.... yet. Seriously we are creating a national spine to transfer this data around the UK it has started and it will happen.
Class One
Ahhhh the wonders of living in Blairs Britain!!!!
MONKEYmark
we should all have a chip inside us too. if you an illegal imigrant the chip explodes in your head if you dont get out of country. they should have something to catch all the real criminals selling drugs on the dole. they always target the motorists, think we pay enough already. get the people who wont work shipped to australia. why dont we just pay all your wages into the goverments bank and let them give us some pocket money to buy pop & crisps. tbourner
err... it's nothing to do with Blair, he only puts the votes together (sort of), people say he started war with Iraq but wasn't it like an 85% 'for' vote in the commons!!!! Anyway..... Power is nothing without control, I don't mind having ID cards etc, being tracked and tested at every point, it's the worry that it will be mis-used and/or not accurate enough and innocent people get shafted by either the government or other not-so-innocent people!! I heard about the satellite car speed monitors as well, but too many professionals have said it'll cause MORE accidents because people will resort to full acceleration up to the speed limit and drive erratically to make up for it!! So I don't think it'll happen.
Shovels
Satellite Speed tracking....ummm...All of you out there with a road angel!? Can u image what would happen if the police could tap into the systems and watch the speeds you were going at! (not implying that any of you would speed ) But this does put me off getting a road angel, it's just one more thing that can track your every move. Next we'll be like over on the continent with road tolls monitoring time between each gate - and fining you there and then if you arrive to quickly. A friend works for the local police IT service and was working in the traffic department. He had to install some new kit and whilst up there he mentioned that the coppers 'jokingly' said "don't worry about the cost, we'll just send the van out for a couple of hours" It's all just a revenue making scheme - the only people that really suffer are the honest ones! If your a criminal or just a scum bag - the chances are you can get away with most things. Rant over
Terminator
Some of you will know and love the A14 espeically the part going east before cambridge. some bright spark has come up with a solution to the congestion problem, Specs and a 60 limit. so now we will all drivalong at 40 behind two lorries. How the hell is that going to ease congestion. One of the main causes of traffic flow restrictionof traffic is the existing cameras, which most people drop to 60 to pass on a 70mph duel CW. I think they need more money so specs is the way to go.
Nick
Anyone that thinks these cameras will only be used to catch uninsured drivers, or those that don't pay road tax is living in a f&*king dream world. It's all very well having these seperate systems for X, Y and Z but when they're all in place it'll take only a very small step to bring them all together.... It's always the same rubbish - If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about. They must think we're all stupid.... BigRoy - I couldn't agree more with you.
