AJI
Simple poll really, as I have not seen many in the past week or two Who is your favourite modern racing driver. I'll go with modern as opposed to 'all time' favourite because of the difference in era and car technology etc.... it always makes it a dubious comparison. johnny g
Fernando Alonso - best driver of the current generation. Vettell has potential to be that man too, though.

Swampy442
Rossi beyond a shadow of a doubt. Multiple class, record breaking, world bike racing champion, established rally driver and first time out in a Fezza F1 car lapped 4 seconds a lap down on Scumachers Fiorano lap rcord. Only logical choice. Also in the realm of tin top racing Andy Priaulx and Giavanardi are quite handy

AJI
Its a good spread of voting. I put down the most common thought of drivers when asked this question. For allround skill level I think Loeb has to be near/at the top... this guy for the past number of years has been the man to beat at top level rallying. And have totally mastered all the terrain surfaces really takes some beating. Great driver to watch on the stages for pure precision and commitment. But I voted for Schumacher, I have watched him over the years since his days at Benneton when he became a clear future champion in the making. This guy also mastered all conditions of his racing arena. Some of the races he was involved in were controversial but more importanlty exciting. And it is the exciting factor that puts him up there for me. Some drivers reach the top only breifly and then loose the edge over the competition, but this guy was 100% commited every season and totally dedicated to F1 in terms of its passion and development. Another favourite driver for me is not on the list because not many people have heard about her. Danica Patrick.... I saw this girl race in Formula Ford in England way back in the mid/late-90's and she was just 16 at the time. She was sitting on top of her car in deep focus about the race ahead and I went up to have a chat and to pass on a good luck message. (Gave her a quick peck on the cheek too ) But for a girl to be in a male dominated environment in a foreign country at 16 shows how this girl was mad about her motorsport. She has since proved herself in Indycar and Kart in the USA.
supra_aero
I miss the old school Jean Alesi and Gehard Berger. Heck even Nigel Mansell back in the day. Overall though gotta be michael schumacher.

grahamc
Fernando Alonso - best driver of the current generation. Vettell has potential to be that man too, though. Completely agree, my favourites in F1. Sebastian Loeb by a mile. Excellent driver
Carl_S
Gaz, what makes a favourite? For me it is more than his driving genius. His hard work. His compassion. His mindset. And yes, his youth, good looks, race, courage under pressure (not only racing, but the Alonso affair), his nationality, family (his younger brother father and mum) and family history all mesh to play a part. I envy him, I know I could never be like him. His girlfriend of course. Envious.

stupra
ROSSI, ROSSI, ROSSI . The Doctor would win every race in the season if they got rid of the "rider aid's". Get rid of the traction control and the anti wheelie, then we would see who out of the "new breed" can really ride, they wouldn't make two lap's on the old 500's... Valentino is not bad in a WRC car either !!.
