michael
So it is okay to speed in a 40mph area? According to you there is: I speed with the best of them, but there is a time and a place... And given that "Driver A" admits to going 45 in a 40 both parties are guilty of this terrible crime.
Nic
According to you there is: And given that "Driver A" admits to going 45 in a 40 both parties are guilty of this terrible crime. So lets say a driver was doing stupid speeds in a 40mph area and caused an accident that you or loved one was involved in? 40mph are 'usualy' there for a reason, urban area, etc.
michael
Point 1: You've moved into the realm of pure theory, what does that have to do with this incident? If a flying dog with huge razors attached to it's ears chopped me in half I'd be fairly annouyed but it has nothing to do with any of the above. Point 2: We know nothing about this particular road, plenty of 40 zones are in open country, I know of several places like this. I agree that limits are there for a reason and that on the whole they should be enforced but a discussion about this is outside of the scope of this particular issue where the problem was an erratic driver coupled with a bad driver - if you wish to discuss inappropriate speeding I'll update one of the earlier threads (In other words I'm not getting into this one, it's dinner time)
merckx
What's sensible about sitting in the 2nd lane while a car in lane 1 goes slightly faster than you? Why is breaking the law by 5mph "just the right speed" I'm confused by your remarks Who says the car in lane 1 was going faster? An indicated speed of 45 on the speedo would probably nearer 40 in reality. When "Dappastyle" said they were both going at the same speed, I'm not sure if he meant exactly the same speed. Most people including the Police accept that drivers go just slightly faster than the speed limit, 35 in a 30, 45 in a 40 , 60 in a 50 etc. If his girlfriend was going 45 in a 40 I would say she was going with the flow of the traffic and not holding anyone up! I think she was just taken by surprise at how fast the Supra came up. I know which car I would rather be a passenger in!
tbourner
I agree with everyone!!! Difficult I know but this whole situation needs clarifying before any more opinions are voiced IMO (get it ). Was it an open dual carriageway with a 40 limit? I know of one (others will too) that has now been put down to 30 (admittedly for roadworks) and there is no real reason to remove the national, or at least 60 limit until the residential area half a mile down the road! Was there other traffic? Why was she in the outside lane? Overtaking (slowly) or being undertaken for lane hogging? How fast was the Supra going? Was he/she racing or alone? Were there any cars going the other way? What sort of road is it? Twisty/straight/school nearby/fenced or open? Anyway, mainly agree with Dave - odd way to say hi. Steve W2
If a flying dog with huge razors attached to it's ears chopped me in half I'd be fairly annouyed but it has nothing to do with any of the above. PMSL, how I laughed when I read this For what it worth I agree with you mate. Unless any of you actually know the road in question, isn't it all speculation? Just thought I poke the fire some:tempted:
Bill Prawn
I sill want to know where this road is in Kettering!
how_supra
I sill want to know where this road is in Kettering! LOL I still think two facts are apparent here: The girl was hogging the right hand lane to start off with.......regardless of the road (man I sound like a broken record), speed, twistyness or otherwise The driver of the other car reacted badly, but because he was provokt, end off
michael
Who says the car in lane 1 was going faster? The original poster does - towards the beginning of the tale the two slower moving cars are apparently side by side, then the poster goes on to say that the Supra undertakes them, pulls in front of them to overtake the car in the inside lane and pulls in again, to do this the car in lane 1 must have made progress over the car in lane 2 or the car in lane 2 has slowed down for some reason. An indicated speed of 45 on the speedo would probably nearer 40 in reality. Having not done full and complete tests on the cars involved I can't comment on this fact. When "Dappastyle" said they were both going at the same speed, I'm not sure if he meant exactly the same speed. There are a lot of facts that aren't 100% clear but people are still willing to point the finger of blame. Most people including the Police accept that drivers go just slightly faster than the speed limit, 35 in a 30, 45 in a 40 , 60 in a 50 etc. Must be OK then. If his girlfriend was going 45 in a 40 I would say she was going with the flow of the traffic and not holding anyone up! We haven't been given any details regarding road users in front of the pair who were side by side - for all we know there might not have been another car for 5 miles or they could have been bumper to bumper - best to stick with the facts we do have rather than making assumptions. I think she was just taken by surprise at how fast the Supra came up. Likewise, this doesn't excuse poor driving though. I know which car I would rather be a passenger in! Me too. merckx
Likewise, this doesn't excuse poor driving though. Me too. They were probably both driving poorly, but from what was originally posted the Supra was all over the place and more dangerous than his girlfriend. I'm not sure if you're saying you would feel safer in the Supra approaching other cars at silly speeds then you must be crazy.

Jake
from what was originally posted the Supra was all over the place and more dangerous than his girlfriend. He would say that though, wouldn't he? I'm not sure if you're saying you would feel safer in the Supra approaching other cars at silly speeds then you must be crazy. Silly speeds? We've only got this guy's word for it and quite frankly he seems a bit of a girl's blouse to me. Classic case of "Anyone who drives faster than I do is a maniac" A bit of speeding and undertaking at 23.30 hardly merits all this fuss does it? terribleturner
Personnally if i was driving up a dual carriagway and found two cars blocking both lanes doing the same speed then i would pull nup behind the fast lane lemming and give them a couple of flashes to get out the way. I wouldn't cut anyone up because i value my car too much. Were you racing the other car or something?? Coz i don't understand why two cars would be in this position other than this. Actually how could this be if the Supra driver was then able to undertake?? I think Jake put it best... There's an easy way to make sure you don't get undertaken: Drive in the correct bloody lane! Folks who drive in the wrong lane are in no position to be criticizing the driving of the people who undertake them.
Aerotop Dave
There's been some crap on these boards over the years, but this is well in contention for Most Useless Thread Ever!! (hey, that spells MUTE - how apt!)

I agree, but I wouldn't have blamed his girlfriend for the incident. You've just got to realise that you catch a lot of drivers by surprise and you cannot just expect them to jump out of the way. You've just got to realise that you catch a lot of drivers by surprise and you cannot just expect them to jump out of the way. Your right. But the sup flashed before coming up behing her, and then even managed to undertake her. You gotta admit somethings not right here. I understand what your saying Merckx, that the sup driver was being dangerous, and your right, but the girl was already in a state of dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention. When driving nowadays you have to be aware of everything around you 100% of the time. What if the sup was actually a police car. Im sure he would have been really happy pulling up behing these to cars milling along the road next to each other.
Supragal
The thing is, no-one else was there and descriptions of things like this are not really something you can go on and form mental images from. Everyones in the wrong, or right, whatever, it's really not worth getting wound up over surely?
