lui
Toyota Celica 1.8 VVTLi T Sport 6 speed 190 BHP version any good ??? Been thinking for a while to sell my prelude / laguna & get a celica model stated above for second car, just wondered what they like for car performance / reliabilty ect. Always like the look of them for second car & it's a Toyota as well Would have to be black finish & fully loaded, top of range as well.
nickball75
My other car is the T Sport Corolla which has the same engine. Really fast cars, but to get the lift you have to reach 6200 revs for it to kick in. The engine is screaming by the time you get there. It almost feels a bit harsh having to get it that far up the range to get it to lift but the rewards are excellent. oh yeah and its limit is 8000 rpm!! Tom
For the same sort of money and much more peformance i'd be looking at a DC2 Integra, I've driven 2 190's and while they are ok to drive the powerband is so small and really lacks any sort of punch really slow imo so a massive dissapointment for me DC2 on the other hand is 100 x's better in everyway, also still has a huge boot if you need the space
chris2o2
Trying to keep them in the power band is supposed to be tricky . Im sure there was a problem with oil starvation in the early models ? I much prefered my prelude to my older Gen6 celica . Check out the celica-club
Ian W
For the same sort of money and much more peformance i'd be looking at a DC2 Integra Just what I was going to say. I'm a tad biased but I love it to bits and still average 35mpg driving normally. Prices are coming down too, could get a nice 98spec in black for under £8k Check out http://www.itr-dc2.com

Jimmer
Im sure there was a problem with oil starvation in the early models ? I drove hundreds of these whilst I was at Toyota, and it would make a decent enough second car. Although they are gutless to 6k and then its a fight to keep it in the power band being a six speed, changing gear all the time. As for reliability, in five years we never had one VVTLi engines apart, so very good. Oil starvation was an issue with the early VVTi engines, so not that one. Yeah, there's plenty bargains about. The 98spec commands a premium (same as the facelift supra, bigger brakes / better exhaust / HIDs as standard etc). You also pay more for one that isn't Championship White

Ian W
I didnt know the 98's had those extra's is that just imports? and the standard spec for UK's? Yup, 98spec has HIDs / 16in wheels / better manifold / different gear ratios / larger brakes (possibly more differences). UKDM has larger brakes / quad lamp front / larger cat (oem exhausts are not interchangable). 96spec has 15in wheels / smaller brakes though is generally lighter. The JDM cars have the rectangular headlamps (apartfrom the Si) and most extras were actually delete options (mine is missing air bags and a rear wiper). http://www.itr-dc2.com has all the info, great forum too
lui
Not looking to good so far with power ratings & way it comes on, might need to test drive one shame as realy like looks of them to. Also not needed to much for power as I all ready have the supra but will keep doing my research & once again thanks for advice so far. Just wanted something looking nice & standard that cn be used for general use with sporty feel about it.
