Marty
I've not long changed my broadband provider. After looking at all the different options available i went with o2, unlimited downloads etc, for £7.38 a month. Now this is the thing that has really got me miffed... I've been with bt for about 4years now, paying £25 a month, for unlimited downloads and the maximum speed i can possibly get (apparently). Bt have always told me the maximum my line could manage was 1Mb broadband, and the speedchecker sites confirmed this (990Kbs down and 100kbs up), i rang them up each year asking to check if my speeds could be increased and always got the same answer...No, 1mb is the maximum i could get. So i swap over to o2, and guess what, my speed is now ~4000kbs download and 900kbs upload !! Looks like bt have been having my pants down for years with my speed. Pack of b*stards!!!!:taped: Anyone else noticed a significant increase, or decrease, in speeds when they changed providers? On a lighter note, i can't recommend o2 enough, the wireless router was here the day after i ordered the broadband, o2 text me daily letting me know how my order was getting on, and i was online with them a week later. Can't fault the speeds or service so far, and for only a little over £
Homer
Thats a lot more to factor in than advertised rates. Just as an example, contention ratio is a key that most are not aware of which has a massive impact on speed, but is rarely mentioned even in then small print. It's an easy get out clause for the ISP's when they get complaints - blame the neighbours for using you bandwidth...
Marty
Ah right, excuses excuses hey?! I'd like to blame the neighbours but most of them are coffin dodgers so i doubt they even know how to turn a pc on
grahamc
I have the same issue with BT. Originally thought that it might be easier having phone and broadband from the same company, but BT is just ripping me off. The speeds are terrible as well. How do you find 02? JohnnyW
Good move going to o2. I was getting a 3mb connection at home. Moved over to o2 last year and it's a steady 8mb downstream, 1.2 mb upstream. No download limits, cheap, reliable I really can't recommend them highly enough. ozz
I had the opposite, my service became unusable with Tiscali, synced at under 1meg and downloads around 180kbp. Moved to BT, syc now between 3meg and 5 meg, downloads well over 2000kbps. I live in a very rural area. loving BT right now!
SteamAhead
Had same here when moving from one provider to another. I'd been with Plusnet for a good few years with no problems. The last year I was with them I was paying over £35 for the fastest line i could get (run many consoles and computers in doors) My average speed was 6mb with them. I then deside to buy Sky for the house. Got Sky+ with the 4 mix channels and unlimited broadband. All been fine and now have broadband speed of 13mb costing me just £29 a month. So one happy chappy Seems it's always good to have a little shop around. Jim
