supra_aero
I got a odd random phone call last night, basically was the 4th new owner of my ex-rx7 calling me asking questions about the car (I had been the 2nd owner). Bit odd as he could've just asked the guy he bought it off but he said he wasn't confident talking/getting advice from him. Anyway, cutting a long story short.. I was really excited to be reconnected with my old car and have at least the telephone number to the new owner as I had lost contact details of the guy I had sold it to as I had always thought of buying it back at a later stage. So I was like, "so how is she? Is she still running sweet with near immaculate paintwork ?" Answer - no; moldy interior. Tons of rain water in the boot, all the expensive defi gauges disconnected and in disaray. Cracked and scratched front and rear bumpers - dings, dents and scratches over the rest of the body. O and the engine has blown. Brakes rusted over from being sat still for months. Sure there is more but it upsets me just thinking about it. I was so shocked - this car I had double waxed every sunny weekend. I loved that car and although it cost me the earth to run, I looked after it as best I could. And to hear it was in such a state made me so upset. Yes I had sold it but I never imagined it'd end up like that - it was near showcar quality (at least in my eyes) and got thumbs up where ever it went. Am I over reacting or would you guys feel the same way if you found your supra was in a similar state a couple of years down the line? I know the guy I sold it to ran into unexpected financial problems but I'd rather he sold it on than let it rot the way it did.

supra_aero
I am still in shock. I know its easy to under estimate how much these cars can be to run, but there must come a point when you realise you can't afford to run it and decide to downgrade and sell it. Still really upsets me that car ended up like that. Only good news is this new owner has big plans for it and I get the idea he wants to restore it to its former glory. Still annoyed it ended up in such a state.
Bazzagt4
I can relate to everything you say. My old Grey Celica GT4 was taken by my ex-wife as part of our divorce and when it broke down she just left it on the drive to rot away, I offered money for it and even tried to repair it but she wont let it go, I travelled up to see her and my son 2 weeks ago and it still sits there now covered in green algie and mould all over the once perfect interior I , like you spent hours polishing and keeping this car near perfect and enjoyed taking it to many shows and club events. I once again offered her money and a chance to get rid but she still maintains it will be on the rd again, but it is geting beyond repair now and upsets me too see it destroyed by lack of care. There should be a law against it
ManwithSupra
I had something similar, When i was younger (2nd car) i had a mint metalic blue F Reg Ford Fiesta Xr2 no rust (even in the wheel arches and chassis underneath), no dents, no scratches the bumpers were still black and not faded, no water leaks interior was perfect condition no tear's or anything. I replaced the engine in my garage with a brand new engine which had been built up from scratch with a Port flowed Stage 3 head with Twin Weber 45 Carbs. I spent alot of money even on it as it was nearing "classic" status. I then was made redundant and needed to sell it It was snapped up really quickly and 3 weeks later the new owner called me up and said that he had wrapped it around a tree and that he was ok but the car is totaled.... my heart sank still does after all the hard work cleaning it, working on it etc. Such a shame... I'd be lying if I said I was not so emotionally shaken. I was even scared to see current pictures of it as I knew it'd upset me. The rx7 and supras were 2 poster cars I always dreamt about when I was young, and as such each one I have owned will always be extra special. I just hope the next owner of my supra looks after it. Told a mate at work and he was like "well its not your problem now is it?". Uncaring git! People who are not pistonheads will never understand. Infact, people who don't wax their cars will never understand the heartbreak!

dibbleyuk
I still see my first car about it was a mint swift GTi with 50k on the clock was owned by suzuki for 5 years then sold to my mate who i brought it from. I tastefully modded it and it looked really nice. Now after 2 chav owners the poor thing is a state! I wouldnt sell my scooby locally i didnt wanna see someone driving around in it so anyone local who was intrested i wouldnt sell it to them in the end it went to brighton which was fine by me As for the supra at the moment i wouldnt sell it at all i love it too much. Everytime i drive it its such a great feeling! that isnt going anywhere for a long time yet!
Stonkin
Seeing Jezz post pictures of my old supe after it had been front ended gave me the ump for a few days. Time, effort and money goes into our cars, no one wants to see them ruined. Chin up mate
SteamAhead
The fact that I've still got a picture up of my old Supra in my office, tells me I'm still way to attached to the girl. The guy that bought it from me searched high and low to get one as good a condition as mine - so god help him if it's now in a sorry state. (If i'm honest, I think I'd rather not know or see how it looks now). To me your thread say's; I'm a massive car inthusiast is that a problem... There should be a law against it This is just personal isn't it?...............solution give a local member the address, they go knock on the door and say i've noticed your car just sitting there for 'x' months blah blah yadda yadda, would you be interested in selling it? At least then you'd know if she would let it go (if she won't then she really must have plans for it - that or she values the effect it has on you over the financial value to her )................ Disclaimer "I take no responsibility for how she may react should such a tactic work and you end up with the car and she then finds out you are the new owner"
Carl_S
In short yes. But my long answer is as follows: A car for me is very much like a woman. You ride in her, use her every day, or just look at her and admire her. When you sell her on (dump her) or scrap her (cheat on her) then you have finished that relationship. Yes you may buy her back one day, but it will never be the same. I have an emotional connection with almost everything I own, but especially with my car. My car represents something about myself I can't quite yet put my finger on. And until I do I will always own such ridiculously showy cars. My car is not there to attract women. In fact I'm sure it repells the women that I like. It satisfies and justifies something deep within me, and I will hang onto it as long as I can. Once it is sold, I pass on the responsibility to another, I hope they will treat it will, but ultimately I cannot control that. Musical instruments I also regret selling very much. And my supra is very much a musical instrument to me and not a mode of transport.

stevie_b
Carl_S, your posts continue to crack me up! I can't help but be reminded of the photo posted on here of a man in a black lacy basque performing a s*x act on a classic Range Rover. chris2o2
Yeah i had a similar experience , with a car i wrote off ! Crashed my prelude , total write-off - took a few months for the oh-so-shitty direct line to pay out . Once i had the money i was looking for another prelude to replace it , couldnt believe my eyes when my "36k , one owner , immaculate and modified" prelude appeared on ebay . This was a car that had 70 odd thousand miles on the clock when i went headfirst through a lampost and then into a wall at about 60mph. The car was totally standard when i had it and i was the third or fourth owner. Anyway , he had replaced the standard bumper for a veilside copy....oh how i cried when i saw it
supraspeed
i sold my 2nd car a celica st in mint condition to some guy about 2 1/2 years ago. i had stripped out the back seats and made an absoulutly awesome speaker enclosure out of fibreglass. like a giant bowl with 6 speakers circling the inside with a 14" sub right in the centre. loads of other ICE as well all around the car. neons as well between the speakers which was a bit chav but looked really good at the time. I was searching on ebay about a month later after selling and saw it up for sale. He had completely wrecked the car and all the inside was completely smashed up to pieces. it only sold for about £200 as a none runner but was in such a state. it just felt like all my time doing it was a waste. i got loads for the car off the guy who i sold it to but still felt like it was still my car a bit. real shame it was a really nice car
