ClaireRZ-S
Let it fall last night, i tripped over the ac adapter and the base of it went flat onto the tiles. It looks ok no cracks or anything but it seems the hard drive is fecked . I tried a recovery and this started to about 15% and then failed and the hard drive is still visible in bios. Since there is no visible damage i'm not sure whats done internally or if it would be noticable if i arranged a repair .crap...
Mike
Get on the blower to the insurance company... that's what it's for edit : you took accidental damage, right?
ClaireRZ-S
No afraid not Mike first time ever to drop one .
stevie_b
You could swap the hard drive for another one, but this obviously won't tell you if anything else inside is damaged. I'd run memtest86 on the RAM, and try booting from a CD ROM to check the CD drive still works.

Just buy another disk, pop on an OS and away you go Provided its not insured of course
ClaireRZ-S
I know people in the call centre as i use to work there before so one of the guys said chance your arm. If they find physical damage said that they'd send it back free of charge and i could try that then.

ClaireRZ-S
Haha well if they find it i wont deny it i'll just get it sent back . I was getting the error "sense operation failed" . I was thinking a low level format might work but since i dropped it i doubt it...
stevie_b
I was thinking a low level format might work but since i dropped it i doubt it... Worth a go if you don't mind spending the time on it, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. If the hard disk has sustained damage, it's probably physical (e.g. the read/write head slapping against the platter).
ClaireRZ-S
Yeah i'll try it and see the repair is arranged for tomorrow anyway worth a shot to see they will do it within warranty.
