Seen it a few times usually goes hand in hand with cars loosing oil through either the turbo or engine. The oil burning generates excessive heat and the cast simply cracks. Chris Wilson Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Many turbo reconditioning companies happily send out rebuilt units with minor wastegate seat cracking, on some turbos it's very hard to find a used casting that ISN'T cracked that looks a bit excessive though, as once the crack gets more than a thou or two wide the heat erodes it into a V shaped track.
