Stu_Fraser
I have got a problem with a 1998 vauxhall corsa 1.4. When pulling away the car surges back and forward in a kangarooing fashion. The engine management light is also illuminated. The car idles fine when in neutral. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong as Ive no idea

Stu_Fraser
u tried plugs, leads, etc etc ? sensor possibly Hi matey, had a quick look and they seemed fine but will have a better look tomorrow when its light. Could possibly be some sonsor problem. Trying to find out how to read the ecu fault codes on the interweb but not having much luck finding how to do it. I went to the match today and came back though jesmond, was going past the cradelwell and the car started doing this in really heavy traffic, felt like a right idiot, ha ha
3LL
fuel starvation? mass airflow sensor? im guessin its a corsa B.. they are known to have mass airflow sensor problems, especially the 12 and 16v engines. engine management light comes on and this is followed by car stalling when you lift off the throttle or sometimes they just cut out without warning.. It can also be a prob with the exhaust re-circ valve [EGR Valve] at the front near the rad, these too are known to cause problems. another thing to check is that the pipe that comes off the top of the cylinder head and runs into the mass airflow sensor is a solid pipe and not a flimsy pipe, these get quite a vacume going through them and I have seen it in the past where the vacum going through the pipe has caused it to pinch together and this also causes the engine to stall. Another extreme would be to check that the breather in the sump is clear as this can build up backpressure which causes a similar thing. thats bout all i can think of but a few things to check.. Luka-P
I'd recommend changing the crank and cams sensors. Same problem, this solved it.

Yep corsa B 16v, just found a guide to retrieving fault codes so ill do this tomorrow. The car idles fine in neutral but when I put it into gear and pull away it start kangarooing, totally un drivable. I reckon ill be going to buy a haynes manual tomorrow
Stu_Fraser
Update, went to look at the car today and it drives fine and there are no fault codes stored........ whatever the problem its intermittant. Guess I'll just have to wait till it happens again before I can fix it
