vase
The countries you mentioned get this every year, last time we had snow like this where i live was in the late 80's! Alot comes back to the various workers ie signal men, ticket office staff, check in staff, pilots etc etc etc not being able to get to work............ Yes we are used to it here but it still causes some problems when the weather is really bad. This winter the weather has been quite normal here in the southern Finland though. Building a house in the winter is a pain in the ass I can tell you that much. http://www.vasmo.org/temp/snow.jpg
Carl_S
That Malamute has husky in him right? The snow suits him. I wanted to see my cats investigate the snow, but didn't get the chance. Must be pretty hard for them, imagine having to squat on that! Also found the cat flap frozen shut, so it's worth checking if you have cats. AndrewOW
Yes, I have checked, and I can confirm, that I indeed do have a cat. No frozen flaps though. EDIT: And I can also announce I found a small dog in here too
SupraStar 3000
Great looking dog Trev. Looks right at home in the snow with his natural coat
Chris Wilson
The damned emus are sitting eggs, stupid birds, not much chance of those hatching this year Our youngest Russian Black Terrier is systematically destroying a kennel I got for him and his pal, I took pity on them being in their runs in just dog baskets (they have roofed runs, with sheltered side boarding), should have left them as they were, they are from Russia after all, and seemed quite happy with no kennel... The new rescue Komondor has discovered snow today, and like the other 2 we had, likes to just lie in it and have a kip, until he blends seamlessly into the landscape. The first one that did this frightened the bejesus out of me, I thought it had died in the night, but it's a common trait. We lost 2 elderly Guinea fowl to the frost recently, which was sad, as they were tame and cute. I'll be glad when this cold snap is gone, I'm too old to be wet and frozen most of the day sorting the feed and water out, it makes an already none too simple task a right PITA. It's nothing like as bad as it was here in March about 2 years back, we really had a drop of the white stuff then! http://www.newbury-house.com/snow/snow.html
tbourner
dog is really cute, he still young? 14 weeks. That Malamute has husky in him right? The snow suits him. How very dare you! I have his pedigree up to 5 generations of pure Malamute champions and pulling dogs!! Yes, I have checked, and I can confirm, that I indeed do have a cat. imi
They didn't even attempt to grit the roads this morning - side roads, I can understand, but the M25, M40, A41, A405 & A40 are significant arterial routes. My sister lives in Connecticut near NYC and flew here last night and just thinks the whole UK shutdown is a national embarrassment. They measure snow in feet over there and we have known this was coming for a week yet still councils are claiming they were caught 'on the hop'. I believe in the UK people mainly are looking for an excuse not to work. There is no hire and fire culture instead there is still a pretty much job for life one; else the state can be raped and pillaged to support the parasites. Govt use the stats to suggest that it is not economically viable to invest in infrastructure that is operational in such condition. Would be nice to hear what they actually invest in. Granted the snow is quite deep - but to bring the country to a halt like this, abysmal. P.S: Cute DOG BTW

Northampton and Leister were gritting saturday and sunday. The roads out here are perfectly fine. All gritted.
imi
I think it depends on the local council. Northampton and Leister were gritting saturday and sunday. The roads out here are perfectly fine. All gritted. Makes sense - In the 5 yrs that I studied in Glasgow there were numerous snow storms, etc and never really remember anything as bad as this. Could be localized mainly in the south then. Mind you, North England is supposed to get hit hard tonight (12 inches of snow apparently) - that would be a freak occurrence by any means. Scooter
Granted the snow is quite deep - but to bring the country to a halt like this, abysmal. geez lighten up................ There was this really windy night one day back in the eighties, I remember not be able to get out of the village for days and the school was shut for at least a week............where are/were the scores of chainsaw crews we need for that once in 50 years event? Similarly a day here and there of snow spread over the course of the last 2 DECADES has stopped me from going to school/work. Its just like an unexpected bank holiday, some parents have to give up getting to work, the schools are shut so some parents have to stay at home, the result? They all have a great day playing together as a family and the kids probably end up with a memory that lasts a lifetime.

Very true There was a news article that showed a group of people who didnt know each other all helping to build a snowman, on any other day they would prob hurl abuse and stab each other. ivan
Added another inch or so overnight to the one inch we'd already 'suffered'. But it's starting to melt now.

Chris Wilson
I wonder how those heroes in truly cold countries manage to get about, hell, there's barely a couple of inches there To see the news one would think we'd suffered some cataclysmic climate change over night, not a little powdering of seasonal snow that'll last less than a week. Are we men or mice?

Seems like Us lazy sods cant be asked working - need a big kick up our backsides..
Animal
Are we men or mice? We're men, come into the car park for a fight and we'll prove it. It is stupid. In all the times we've actually had snow stick, I've only missed work once and that was because the road leading to work was under about 4 feet of snow and even the tractors couldn't shift it all so we got turned away. I managed to 150 mile drive to Cumbria at 6am Monday morning without any trauma. Okay, it took me 3 and a quarter hours, but I got there. The first few miles to the motorway were at 5-10mph with a few twitches, but nice, gentle movements kept everything pointing the right way. People who live 10min away have stayed home cause there roads are bad, apparently, lazy gits spring to mind more like.
razza
our office is shut as the carpark's all ice, and can't log on as everyone's trying to do the same, time for a bit of snow man making and film watching me thinks and yes, it is lazy
colsoop
Does sum up the uk quite nicely though - any excuse for a skive. The gym was empty the last couple of days, you would have thought all those Chelsea tractors would cope with a bit of ice and snow

keancy
I text my Boss this morning at 7am and asked her what the score was about walking to work (Driving not an option, Firm on top of very steep Hill) she told me not to bother as she didn't want me falling over trying to get there. It's only 3.5miles but I wasn't going to argue with her and stayed at home. PS: Yes I am used to a lot,lot more snow where I am from and the world never stopped there, snow-chains on and carry on but this is the UK
