Even when chromed the rust will get to it eventually if not protected regularly. More so the heatshield due to the heat, would be better to get that chromed although it can be a bit hit and miss due to the double skin. Chroming the ps res is also an option but you need toi make sure that the gauze filter inside doesn't become clogged ! If you polish the ps res and get a finish your happy with then i would use some kind of sealant glaze (car paintwork type) followed by carnauba wax (or equivalent) it will stave off the rust but will need to be redone religiously or the old ginger beard will return.
