Guest bigsteve0012
I have been told my neighbour who fixes my car that is a mechanic that i need to change the cam belt at 100,000, He says it will cost between 200 and 250 pounds. IS this correct and could i buy it cheaper elsewhere. All feedback will be gratefully received chaps.
rich_supra
seems a bit pricey to me, we charge about 150-175 on cars like supras. there quick jobs to do. i did mine the other day. BTW its 100,000 km so about 60,000 miles
Guest bigsteve0012
Thanks for that rich supra. So you think he is ripping me off. But then i dont have to worry about vat - he said about 250-300 all in.
rich_supra
i wouldnt say rip off just maybe negotiable but maybe get quotes elswere. now 300 would be dealer prices so thats a rip off. at end off day supras are rear wheel drive the only thing in the way is AUX belt so its not a hard long job like some cars, theres no mounts like front wheel drive cars. so dont have to jack engine up etc.
merckx
Your neighbour would charge you £250 - £300? As a neighbour he's definately not doing you any favours.
Tricky-Ricky
Yep i would say thats a little excessive, not a hard job with the right tools, as the pulley bolt is done up to a very high torque, and can be pretty stubborn.
Dnk
£200 is too much let alone £300 ! i paid way less than that at my local garage so imo he's not doing you any favours Edited February 1, 2009 by Dnk (see edit history)
