Pot Posted January 31, 2009 Share Posted January 31, 2009 Funny you should say that as I was doing 300 miles a week commuting to work in the Audi and it was costing me 60 pounds (sorry can't find the pound sign on this stupid keyboard) a week in diesel and when I got the Supra it cost me the same in petrol. This was when Diesel was extortionate though. Sounds about right, I do 500 a week in the A5 (Only the 2 litre though ), and it costs about £50 in petrol... dangerous brain Posted February 1, 2009 Share Posted February 1, 2009 My £400 rover 220 sdi T reg is a peach of a motor with 100k miles on. At that price its disposable. Comes with alloy wheels, leccy windows, cd player, remote locking, leccy sunroof, power steering etc. It gives me 45-50 mpg and is no slouch in town, it will apparently keep up with an equivalent aged golf GTI. It doesn't absorb any floors in the road surface, yet suffers from an alarming amount of body roll. Plus the steering gives very little feedback. If you do test drive one, try stalling it on purpose. It feels like someones driven into the back of you. It's actually a lot of fun owning a sh*tter. The complete lack of concern for its welfare comes as a blessed relief after owning a Supra. I have a gs300 I picked up for £500, and it's great. I can leave it anywhere, and any damage it does pickup from day to day just seems comical. The last sh1tter blew up last week it only lasted 4 months I thought vaguely about that BMW, but thought we wouldnt be able to afford one, i did t realise they were going that cheap!! danhicks22 Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 I know Seats have been mentioned a lot but I recently picked up an 04 Leon Cupra TDi 150 with 123k on the clock for 2.6k and it runs like a charm. Performance is pretty good (0-60 in 8.6s) and very torquey so good fun to drive. Can still get ~54mpg on a run from Cheltenham to London (although I do have to work hard for it - who'd have thought watching a real-time mpg gauge could be so captivating!). More like 42 on a 'quick' run While a lot of the internals in the VAG cars are the same, the build quality difference is noticeable but I'm pretty chuffed with the Seat - it's far from poor quality. I've had a 5 series beemer run into me whilst in the middle of his own crisis and I did nothing to stop him as I just didn't care. I'd never do that in any of the cars I respect, Id have taken avoiding action and have been extremely wound up for the rest of that day. Yeah I also bought a sh*tter that failed on me in less than 100 miles but the following one is a peach. All in (with the duffer as well) I am in for £875 which is a bit cheaper than £10k and I can leave it where I want and as its registered elsewhere I can if needs be leave the damn thing there if I catch an expensive parking ticket.
