Which One Would You Go For???

This is a choice between two runabouts, needs to be practical, economical, comfortable etc as it will be doing 150 miles 5 times a week.

They are both simliler price with similer mileage, both 2ltrs and both diesels turbos, we have really decided on either one of these, however if you have an altenative sensible suggestion it would be appreciated :)

whats the price difference? personally i'd also look at the seat and skoda's as they all use the same engine/parts but the prices are somewhat different

Audi = £50 cheaper, but in todays market, both prices are somewhat negotiable :D

Have to pay for warrantly on the Golf Though

Quality of parts go up with the car you choose, if you try a Seat you would tell that it isn't as good build as a Golf.

Not tried the Audi so can't comment on build quality.

I'd go for the 2ltr GT TDI a nippy run around and good on the mpg and mine has been excellent upto 75k miles from new.

Also still looks good

Voted Audi also :) Out of interest would it be worth considering a petrol engine instead of the TD ? assuming the choice for diesel is based on economy as you're doing high mileage, the problem at the minute is diesel is more expensive than petrol so would this saving be cancelled out ? I'll let someone else go into this one as my brain seems to have switched off for the weekend (possibly the beers are having some influence too) ;) would be interested to know

looks wise id prefer the Audi

I'd have the Audi A3 time and time again.

Had an A3 before I got the Supra and they are a lovely drive, plus it's got tons of torque and are really quick for a diesel.:)

I think it must be a women, thing, because i certainly love the build and quality of the audi, or its maybe because we have had an audi in the family for years

The Audi is more comfortable and probably has more toys, but higher bills.

The Golf is more basic, but cheaper to run.

They are both the same MPG, however how do you mean by higher bills?

Well the only thing is that i like the audi, and the OH likes the Golf, but the warranty offered is stupid for the Golf IMO,

Il let the poll run, were have a look at the Seats and Skodas and then review the situation,

Thanks for the comments guys :)

A3 FTW!!

Although I have never driven a Golf. I got a brand new A3 in November and although it was the cheapest car for tax on my company car list, I expected a poor basic car for day to day running....

How wrong I was..:D On the motorway in feels like a much bigger car but on the twisties it grips like sh!t to a blanket...;) I have the 1.9 and that is a wee bit under powered (105Hp), once it gets going though it's a joy to drive..!! The steering is ultra light and the gearbox is magnificent. Only problem I have is that it's a bit small as a rep mobile although the Golf is even smaller!!

Funny you should say that as I was doing 300 miles a week commuting to work in the Audi and it was costing me 60 pounds (sorry can't find the pound sign on this stupid keyboard) a week in diesel and when I got the Supra it cost me the same in petrol.

This was when Diesel was extortionate though.

You need to answer the following questions:

Do you have sex more than three times a month?

Do you want prestige?

Are you middle class?

If you answered yes to most of those, then go for the Audi. Simply really. ;)

(BTW I went for the VW)

He is off again.:D
