Fitting oil temp probe to the side of the block?

I just had a shufty at the path oil takes through the engine and it's sump -> pickup -> pump -> oil cooler -> filter, so in retrospect it's much of a muchness. The oil at the bottom of the sump may be slightly air cooled and a bit stagnated, but the oil going through the filter sandwich plate has also been through the cooler so it's probably the lowest temperature in the whole system.

 

Which will probably now make me more paranoid as that's where I measure mine :cry:
