JamieP
Am i right in thinking there is an adaptor from a lexus that does this? anyone got a part number? Cheers:)
Andy Blyth
I believe the Lexus mod is for measuring the oil pressure. Search for Lexus Bolt Mod. This may help.
Steve Sherwood
Demontweeks do a sump plug that will take an oil temp sender if thats of any help.
dr_jekyll
i think they make a union bolt for the oil filter housing that has a threat in the top for the oil sensor
Tricky-Ricky
The Lexus bolt is primarily for a pressure sensor, temp reading there may only really reflect the temp in that area, best place for temp sensor is in the sump, i welded a bung to mine to take a thermocouple. bignum
I drilled and tapped a stock sump bolt for mine.

johnd-mkiv
Mines in the sump to mate you should be able to buy an adapter for the sump bolt if its not already that size
Ian C
You could fit a flange to the oil filter takeoff that lets you fit temp and pressure sensors, I've got one and my oil temp sensor lives in there. It's a more 'live' reading of the oil temps than the stuff swilling around the bottom of the sump -Ian

supra matt
You could fit it straight into the oil cooler line mate
JamieP
You could fit it straight into the oil cooler line mate They dont get hot till the thermostat opens though.
supra matt
put it in the hot side before the stat , and why would you wont to measure how cold it is ? you dont wont it to hot so once the stat opens you can see how hot it is.

supra matt
where is your stat positioned mate? like i said just cut it into the hot side before the stat.
JamieP
The stat is in the SP so no pipe to cut into.

supra matt
there is not enough meat on that to tap a sensor into mate. looks like sump is the only way , the bolt method is the easiest as the other needs the sump to be removed and there a hassle to reseal properly What temp is the stat? JamieP
Yeah ill most probs just tap the sump nut, its a mocal, got the kit from driftworks.
Lee P
The sump plug sensor will not be very accurate as it will read cooler down there. I would try and get an adaptor that goes on the oil cooler line (hot side) between the cooler or sandwich plate.

Ah ok that would be an issue But if you're using those aeroquip fittings, you could bag a sensor takeoff component I would have thought? See attached pdf for an example. -Ian2_02_gauges_adapters.pdf
JamieP
Yea i see what you mean but the only thing with putting it there is it wont read till the thermostat opens, im going to look at other sandwhich plates to see if i can get one like i had on the red supra, that one had two ports for oil pressure/temp. Tricky-Ricky
The trouble with using temp sensors in sandwich plates or the cooler feed lines, is that you will only get a local temp, IE the oil passes through the block on its way to the take off plate, so you get an exaggerated reading of that area, which has been preheated by the cylinders/combustion etc, the sump will give a genuine average. but if you want to measure the effectiveness of your oil cooler then you really need a sensor in the feed and return lines;)
