Advice wanted..

Just been for a drive and the steering wheel was shaking like mad over 60. Pretty bad vibrations. I had new tyres put on the back a couple of months ago and had the fronts checked and balanced. After hat they felt fine.

Now its shaking again.. but do the fronts need rebalancing already? Or could I have a warped disk or something? What else could be causing the vibrations?!

It's worth getting the rears balanced as well. I had a vibration that turned out to be a defective rear tyre that made it impossible to balance that wheel properly. I had the fronts balanced a couple of times before finding the culprit. It was a brand new tyre as well, and looked fine. Must have had a lump somewhere. It was suprising how much it effected the whole car - the steering was juddering making it feel like a front wheel.

A judder at a certain speed or speeds should be front wheel balance. If the rears were out, it would be a thrum rather than a judder. A judder under braking would be warped discs, as already noted.

An intermittent judder at certain speeds sounds interesting, though - could this be something suspension related working loose?

Hmm could be suspension.. I used to take it down a dirt path to work every morning, sorta like a semi-paved dirt road.

Im now commuting down the A1 every morning, so I should be fine, although something maybe have worked loose like you said, arg!

I'll try and get our mechanic friend to have a listen.
