Hi All.

yesterday my laptop came up with a blue screen stating the discs needs checking,....so it does it's stuff, gets to the log on.

When I have logged on, as it is loading up, has a hissy fit & goes back to the checking disc screen.

Last night I tried the recovery disc, which has put everything back to factory settings everything seemed to be o.k.

Just switched on this afternoon,............& it' back to disc checking again......

Help!!!!!:)

You can change a value in the registry if you happy to do this.

Here are the steps:

1. Start the registry editor by clicking Start, then Run, typing in regedit and pressing OK.

2. Click on the boxed plus sign [+] in front of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. That will expand.

3. Expand (by clicking the boxed plus sign in front of) SYSTEM

4. Expand CurrentControlSet

5. Expand Control

6. Now click on Session Manager, which is listed underneath Control.

7. In the right-hand pane, double click on BootExecute. This contains the instruction that we want to remove.

8. The command "autocheck autochk /p \??\C:" is what we want to change.

9. Change replace the "/p \??\C:" with an asterisk (*). The resulting command, "autocheck autochk *"

10. Press OK to dismiss the edit dialog.

11. Close Registry Editor

Now, on your next boot the disk checker should not run.

If you are unsure of this don't change anything just let me know. Don't do it if your not fully sure as it may corrupt your disc or you may lose data but since you did a recovery i presume theres no data on the computer.

When it's checking does it say checking FAT 32?

I have an Acer also and the IT guy at work said FAT 32 was no longer applicable and replaced it. That plus the fan mechanism had become covered in thick dust which meant the fan was constantly running and this caused my pc to shut itself down all the time and perform the check that you are mentioning.

Says fie systen is fat 32, goes through check,

finds different named files with with invalid unit allocation ,

then converts these lost chains to files.......says o.k & goes to logon screen.....The rest you know

not a f*^&%£g clue:search:

Hard disk buggered then?

BUT how come when I did the recovery last night, everything worked o.k ........even after the gazillion reboots to get things loaded back on?

No Dust in it anywhere.....Clean as a whistle inside

Yes JB.......gets past the logon, it's in the middle of loading up after that it reboots.

Antivirus has allways been up to date & I have regularly run scans.

Hi Claire,..... I was only online to windows update.

But even when I disconnected ( I allways turn off the wireless link when not online) it was ok

Okay.....Claire might have something here.

I have run the recovery again, turned OFF updates, just updated Norton & that is running & everything seems rosy:D

PC boots up fine, I can log on, everything loads as it should .....no hissy fits....so come on Claire spill the beans, which bloody update is causing this grief[ANGRY][/ANGRY]

I will email the guy from IT to tell me about the FAT32 removal and let you know also. mine was doing a similar thing as mentioned earlier. You say that it was clean as a whistle inside. Did you remove keypad and look underneath? You cannot see from the back as the fan is in the other side.
