CJ
I bought a new PS2 for a friend of mine for Xmas and she has recently started to have a problem. The thing powers up OK and the start screen is fine but when she puts in a game or a dvd it says that "data is not found". She has tried cleaning the disks and the lens but to no avail. Any ideas? CJ
yes, no problem with the warranty but was wondering if there was an obvious thing to check before going back to the shop? Plus the fact that she is in Eire and I bought it in the UK.
Lazarus
There is a big history of this with the PS2, basically the laser head has gone tits up, it usually starts off sporadically not reading then just gets worst until it won't read anything. There were some court case's against Sony and they agreed to take the units back and repair them free of charge but there were still machines that screwed up a second time, this is going back a few years (like about a year after they first came out). Mine started to do this a couple of years back then seemed to be ok, it hasn't messed me around for about 10 months now. (Now I've said that it will probably pack up tomorrow ) I'll see if I can find some more info on this, this is only from what I can remember from back then but it was a big story in the news. Lazarus
www.console-mods.co.uk/ps2-repairs Couldn't find any info on the court case's after a quick search but this might be useful. (If I've got the link right) Edit - can't get the link to work so you'll have to type it in.
