Importing a car to Jersey

hi people,

i want to have one of my dream cars!

there is a car that I’m very interested, but the seller probably think that I’m a scam!

:(

you people have any ideas who to make a clean an ease transaction?

using any car exporter or something like that?

any ideas?

well, you can pay me then i can pay him for the car ..

 

then i can get car shipped over to you (at your costs) and you can pay us a small fee for our troubles..

I live in Jersey also (you may have seen my car about) and I imported my car from Japan a couple of years ago.

 

It is a whole different ball game importing to Jersey than the UK.

 

DVS in Jersey are extremely strict and doing it right first time around will save you a lot of money and time.

 

It would be better for you to go for a UK spec car as you will need to change a lot less on the car to get it thru DVS.

 

Be prepared to pay approx £1,100 for the tax and inspection.

 

DVS can be a bit of a pain but if you get most of the work done before you take it for the inspection, it will be worth it.

 

Remeber, there is also a 3 month waiting list for inspections at the moment. Try and get a cancelation if you can. You wont be able to drive the car until it has the inspection.

yes i have seen your car around here, lovely car!!!!

i have some friends that have registered they cars (Portuguese plate) for about £120/50 with km to miles conversion, and jersey plate!

then the lights need to be changed is well!

so if I’m importing a jap car that is already registered in England, may i don't have to pay that kind of money (£1,100) i hope!! :taped:

Afraid not...

 

It doesnt matter if it is a UK car or imported from Japan, you still pay the same tax.

 

It is on the engine size and not where you get it from.

 

It would only be cheaper if you held a portugese driving licence and the car was coming from Portugal.

 

The lights wont be a problem on a J-spec. The fog light might be an issue but I simply had a pair of the rear lights wired up as fog lamps. A simple job and it saves having one of those tacky stick on ones on the car.

 

The speedo will be an issue s it will need to display MPH on the outside and KMH on the inner ring.

 

A dial kit sorts this easily. naturally, you may need a converter if you are getting a J spec.

 

There are a few other issues you will need to address depending where you get it from.

if you noticed, there is one car on the sale section.

black 5 speed converted in to tt engine, i was speaking with him, and he didn't respond when i told him that i'm from channel isl.

probably e gets scared!!:taped:

 

The car can go where ever it wants to go in the world just aslong as i get paid for it :p. Glad you like it and that your going to all this effort!

Also just to add, the car has a rear fog lamp conversion built into the rear lights and the speedo reads in MPH

 

Does it read in both MPH and KMH?

 

As in MPH on the outer ring and KMH on the inner ring?

 

If not, a dial kit will need to be fitted. Not the end of the world.
