supra-lover
Alright guys, since losing my job just before christmas i have been looking into getting in the police force. As essex police wasn't recruiting at the time I went and checked out the pcso open day they had over in chelmsford HQ. I left there loving the sound of the job and completed my application form and sent it off. My girlfriends dad works at chelmsford HQ training police officers and pcso's and he thinks i'll get in no problem. I so hope i do because it's a really good job. I have 4 good mate in the police force and they all love it, and told me to go for it. So finger crossed If you see a pcso getting attacked by a gang of :chav: it will most probably be me lol lol

jamesmark
Lets pretend Police or glorified security guard, also people who wish to join the Police but do not quite meet the MET's entry standards.
tbourner
Don't the police have to do PCSOs paperwork for them though? Meaning it actually results in LESS police on the streets (plus the fact they will all hate you for doing your job well).

Carl_S
Fantastic mate. I wish you every success from the bottom of my heart. I have felt nothing but respect for PSCO's, specials, Comunity Support Officers call them what you will. I can understand some of the bad press they get, but I feel it is completely unwarranted. They are there to fill a role which is very different to that of the regular police, and yet their job is good preparation for the regular police force. I am happy for you, and sense you will fit in well, and with hard work you will do yourself and the community proud. Carl
far
Its the minority Chavs and the media that have created this image of PCSO inferiority, I think they do a great job and have seen the work they do in the community. As always there are lazy feckers that wont jump in a canal to rescue a drowning kid but for each of them there would be dozens more that would. Gazboy
A chap I work with is becoming a PCSO, they must be desperate because he's an idiot. I have a pair of PCSO's working on making the local scrotes life very hard, they aren't very sharp but my God they are keen and determined. Jamesmark I think your totally wrong tbh, people who want to be pcso's generally want to be out there with the people getting involved and trying to sort problems out. The mets entry standards aren't that hard either really, if I get in I will probably do it for a couple of years, this will give me an idea what being in the police force will involve. I may decide to apply for essex or met police after. PCSO's don't do paper work thats rite, I think thats the whole point of a pcso, if a pcso can sort the problem out without the police being called thats less paper work for the police isn't it??? That's if what I was told is correct, which it may well not be! It was my understanding that anything the PCSOs dealt with still had to be written up, but the PCSO isn't allowed to do it (as you agree) so a regular cop has to do the paperwork for them!! Meaning the 'real' police (no offence) have to do other people's paperwork as well as their own. It just seems like a step towards a world full of PCSOs with trained police as their personal secretaries!!

I personally don't give a monkeys about all this eerr your not proper police officer. The end of the day it's a job and a job that can make a difference i think. tbourner
Furry muff, my mate's in the Met and was taking the piss out of another mate for wanting to become a PCSO. But then he's a sarcy bastard as well! Good on you for going into something different though, I wouldn't have the balls to change my job to anything like that!! Well i have been a printer, lorry driver and now this (if i get in) As i said i have a few mates in the met and they have been taking the pi$$, but on a serious note they all said that pcso's do a really good job in aiding them on a day to day basses. I really hope i get in, will be brilliant, I have a fairly short temper thats my only problem i think, I don't know how i will handle somebody getting aggressive to wards me, but i know that is something i will have to sort out if i want too get on well as a psco OR police officer. Carl_S
Wow a short temper, at least you know you have one. It's a lot more dangerous if you have one and don't know about it, or even refuse to admit it. You will do well.
