DAT Inter
Y0 peeps. Im looking to try out the despoilered look but dont want to seal it up and dont want to leave a gaping hole. Has anyone who has done this before used like rubber grommets/plugs to do so? If so where did they get them and what diameter did they buy? Chees guys. merckx
Some decent quality coloured silicone rubber applied mainly from underneath will adhere perfectly. What colour is the car? Get some silicone rubber, cut it, glue it underneath?
merckx
In a tube, the same stuff that's used in bathrooms and kitchens etc. It sticks to almost anything, once applied it will cure but it remains flexible (like rubber) and waterproof. Like the stuff below for example. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/62431/Sealants-Adhesives/Sealants/All-Weather-Sealants/Dow-Corning-791-Weatherproof-Silicone-Black Edited January 26, 2009 by merckx (see edit history)

You can get em in Halfords etc. It's all very well filling in, but then you have to paint too, and it ends up being a pita.
Jamesy W
Your car is silver is it not? I can't see you achieving anywhere near as good a finish as you would like.

Homer
Unless you're getting rid of a ghastly spoiler you might as well keep the stock one on. The only way to make a despoilered car look nice is to fill the holes and repaint the rear hatch, it'd look horrible to have some ugly plastic fillers, it's a complete half arsed job
DAT Inter
The only reason that wanted the grommets was to plug up the holes long enough for me to drive around, see if i like the car without it, and not let any water in to the boot or between the boot layers to start causing corrosion. That way if i dont like it, i can pop the spoiler back on, and not have any water in my boot.
AlexM
I used some plastic plugs from halfords and blu-tac, worked fine for what I wanted (and it doesn't leak).
captainchaos
did exactly the same thing as you before i had mine sprayed, and in the end i loved it without the spoiler and had it all flushed out i bought a box of variuos sized grommets off ebay come in handy now and again for other things too
SteveL
If its a temporary job - just use some Duck tape. it'll cover the big square hole left by the locator clips as well The grommits work as well, but if you've got Duck-tape lying around .... merckx
it'd look horrible to have some ugly plastic fillers, it's a complete half arsed job lol The silicone was just meant to be a better temporary alternative to a grommet.
marcAB10
i'm sorry but this is a great idea, i have seriously been considering despoilering mine once i have my spats/skirts fitted but never knew if i'd like it. So when the time comes i'll just pop some grommets in for a couple of weeks and if i like it then i'll send it off to get filled and painted. marcAB10
so does anyone know what diameter the grommets have to be?
merckx
so does anyone know what diameter the grommets have to be? The same size as the hole.
