ozz
My xbox elite doesnt work now after i got the three lights of death on my old one! Ive to send it to birmingham for repair and its going to cost £50 to fix. The unit turns on and it sounds like the fans are working away but theres nothing coming up on the tv at all its weird i was playing COD 4 last night and there was no problem with it! Anyone had that problem with an elite?? Mine was a Elite - I disconnected the fan and its fine now. I think it was caused by running it too close to my PC, to warm. How do you disconnect the fan mate? is that just a temporary solution?
ozz
How do you disconnect the fan mate? is that just a temporary solution? I followed a guide on youtube for taking apart the xbox, took about 20 mins. You can get a similar effect by covering with a towel but I didn't fancy that. You can get kits to uprate the cooling for a more long term solution. I've used mine a fair bit since with no issues. You have to break the warranty sticker to get inside (not an issue on mine) so keep that in mind as you may not be able to send it back if it doesn't work. ozz
ok bud thanks for that I should clarify reading it back - I disconnected the fan until the thermal cutout activated (under 10 minutes). I then reconnected the fan, put it back together and it worked. The extra heat causes the solder joints to run and (hopefully) reform on cooling. Apparantly the xbox overheats causing the joints to become loose over time. I've moved my xbox to a position where it doesn't get so hot, seems okay. From what I've read, it may never get the problem again or it could die next week.
