Nice one Paul, interested in seeing how you get on with them pistons, looking to build up my spare short block very shortly and these could well do the job:)

I'll be getting some custom stroker pistons made up for my proper engine very soon if your still going down that route, takes about 8 weeks to have them made. I'd definately fit these in any engine now, whether its my own or a customers. Just have a read on there website about them and who uses them, http://www.mahlemotorsports.com/na/ProSeries%20Pistons

You dont see CP's being used in F1 now do you.

15% leakage is terrible. An F3 engine with more than 5% would be rebuilt. A fresh F3 would show about 2 or 3% Where is the leakage, down the bores or has it got valve leakage? I would say the only reason the oil pump would "explode" is harmonics from the crank or debris through it. A stroker crank will have some very different harmonics to a stock one. I would definitely run the stock dampers, nothing else. I'd also have it re-balanced by someone really good, to see if they find any issues. Feel for you! :(

Leakage is down the bores yes, have you ever checked a stock engine before? We've never seen one below 15%.

I do sometimes wonder if its something to do with the crank or not. I never had any engine problems before I stroked it, Steve L's Time Attack Supra is running a stock crank with an ATi damper and never has any problems and that sees plenty of abuse on the track like mine.

The stroker crank was balanced up when I did the last build, the machine shop I use have all the latest equipment so it should have been ok, I will get it checked out though. Did you see the Driftworks S15 had the exact same problem as mine, they are using a stock crank but with an aftermarket damper(not ATi).

How the new engine going mate, i read in another thread you had it at SRR?

Yeah good thanks, it made around 720bhp at 1.5 bar but with a missfire and the usual SRR wheel spin problems. Looks like its about 300rpm later in making full boost without the 3.4 stroker, unfortunately I never really had a good bhp/torque comparison from before to give any proof of the stroker.

I'm testing at Snetterton tomorrow, I'll see if I noticed much of a difference on track. We've got 2 video cameras in each car tomorrow so should get plenty of in car action, bit of dog fighting.

Also trying out the OS Giken diffs for the 1st time which should be interesting.

You should notice tight corner understeer much diminished due to the far better ramp and plate set up, plus if it doesn't put its power down tons better I will be amazed. Good luck, hope your pump problems are over.

It should show its pedigree even more in the wet :) Shame you have to run those Godawful R888's for the series, they really are rubbish compared to other stuff.

Yeah, I'm hoping they'll change them for next year. They have had some supply problems this year which meant we were forced to run old tyres at the last round, not good.

We had a superb day at Snetterton yesterday. Test days are brilliant, so much better than track days. There must have been about 10 cars there in total and 2 or 3 on track at any one time.

We had the Chevrolet World Touring Car team next door to us with Alan Menu driving it. Different world that is, proper race truck which is basically a rolling workshop. Team of about 20 people running the car, there pit garage was full of computers, tyres, etc. And they seemed quite interested in our cars which was nice. Alan Menu was talking to Steve quite a bit which was nice. Bloody quick around the bends those touring cars, Steve had a bit of a go against him and thought he was doing well until he let him past and he just drove off into the distance.

Steve and I more or less had the track to ourselves which was brilliant for getting into the groove and testing different damper settings out. Plenty of time spent following each other round, basically we were racing each other! Superb, I'm still grinning about it now.

I unfortunately had a bit of a problem with my engine cutting out on me which we ended up diagnosing as the crank sensor so I didn't get a lot of time to test different suspension settings. My luck continues :(

Apart from that the cars were working really well. The OS Giken diff was brilliant I think. I say I think as I definately had more traction out of corners but now I'm down to a 3 litre I'm missing around 80 lb/ft torque so it wont be lighting the tyres up like it used to. So I'm not to sure whether the extra traction is because of less torque or the diff or both. I'll see what sort of lap times next week at the last round of Time Attack, I'm hoping to get into the 1.14's with new tyres.

Steve was impressed with his diff though, he has gone from a stock LSD to the OS so its a big difference for him. I'm sure he'll be a long in a mo to comment.

Cant wait for the 10th now.

Videos to come soon...

He must have thought he was driving a different car!

Sounds like a fun day was had by all. I'd say thats the one and only Lacetti to ever leave a Supra in it's wake so don't feel too bad.

Sorry to hear you are still getting the shitty end of the reliability stick Paul. Still, no better man to iron out all the creases and then offer the finished product in a convenient package to be snapped up by your fellow members!:D

Off to TDi's dyno on Tuesday with Ryan to see what we can get out of this latest engine running 2 bar, may be more, see how we go on the day.

Will post up results and dyno sheets of course.

Does their dyno room web cam still work?

So long as you don't get pistons and rods out of it you should be fine :) Good luck, you need some
