Had a top notch afternoon at Brands Hatch today, absolutely love this circuit, would highly recommend it to anyone.

The car itself started off with bags of understeer through the slower corners and oversteer in the high speed corners so not good! To get the balance sorted out we started by raising the rear wing up by 3" and lowering the tyre pressures a tad as they were getting up pretty high. Went out and tried it again and immediately it felt much more stable through the high speed corners.

Next up we tried to dial out a bit of the understeer in the slower corners, tried different anti roll bar settings which didn't help, it just made it oversteer more in the faster corners. So we then tried softening up the high speed bump on the dampers, that transformed the car making the car much more supple over the bumpy bits when braking and giving it more traction out of the corners. That alone knocked a second off the lap time which we were amazed by, couldn't believe the difference it made.

All in all a great day, by the end of it the car was doing exactly what I wanted it to do and its a great feeling as a driver to feel all these changes we were making actually doing something to the car.

Not good news I'm afraid, think the engines melted a piston. It started using a bit of oil at Silverstone and when leaving Brands last night it chucked a bit of blue smoke out the exhaust.

Done a compression test today and that was fine but leak down test showed 85% leak by on no. 6, gutted as thats my day ruined on Sunday, the round I've been looking forward to the most as well. I'll still go and cruise round just to get some points but its going to be so annoying for me knowing how well it was going yesterday. And I'll be falling even further behind Steve!

Next step is to find another block, get some pistons and then work out what happened.

Pissed off, going down the gym to let off some steam.

Sorry to hear that, will you go 3.4 again Paul?

Best case scenario It'll only be a set of pistons/rings and a block rebore. Worst case, there could be head damage, crank damage, turbo damage(if something's go through it). I'm hoping for the best case scenario in which I'll keep the stroker.

Just think of the grins it's put on your face during the time attack season...

I hope it's nothing *too* serious.

Would you really consider loosing the stroker? Do you think it will make much difference to the turbos spool?

Yep, I always try and think of the good parts otherwise it would drive me bonkers!

I am thinking about going back to a non stroker right now to be honest, I dont really know what difference it'll make as I've never compared them back to back. I have driven 2 cars with similar turbos, one with a stroker and the other without and the low down power/torque difference was enormous. I'm talking to Brian Crower about my problems right now, see what they reckon about it. The only engine problems I have had with my car have been since fitting the stroker setup, makes me wonder.

If it's going to need a full build, have you thought about the possibility of using a V8 instead? An Alum. V8 should do wonders for the cars weight distribution, and then you're open to turbo or supercharging (or both :eyebrows: )

Nah, to much work and I dont need any more power or torque, its a handful enough as it is! I'd rather stick with the 2JZ and keep on trying different setups, its more in keeping with what we are about and all of the experience filters down on to customer cars.
