merckx
they ment a green and yellow 10mm cable going BACK to the fuse board. ur main incoming water should be bonded! its a very quick and simple test to check this just by using a continuity tester which reads ohms! have a fly lead (as usually the water tap is miles from the fuse board) and hold on water pipe, then to one probe of the tester then the other probe on the main earth bar of the fuse board. ideally u want a reading as close to 0 as possible, higher it gets the more of a bad connection or a disconnection the earth wire has to the pipe Yes, we've got the gree and yellow cable. When he said black cable it got me thinking that we don't have it. I'll check out the continuity and resistance tomorrow. Thanks

TopgunTT
How bizarre i had the exact same yesterday. I was getting a shock from the water in the kitchen sink. When i was looking around for a reason i found the washing machine had a pipe leaking. Called an electrician and traced it back to the fuse box where one of the wires was not connected correctly, Wasn't powerful the shock but worrying all the same. Something to do with the dampness around the sink area and the fusebox was just above it, I didn't understand it all myself, Glad its sorted though. L33
u called a electrician? mate im only down the road for u!! and mates rates?!
j1mb0b1
Some one call a sparky, iam a sparky I would say its more than just an earth problem i would say you got a live cable touching a pipe of some kind thats the only way you can get a shock off your pipes or water, And the fact its not triped the breaker means your earth cable is not doing its job or just not there at all. if i was you i would get a sparky out asap to test all your electrics. Not me i'am to far away but this could turn really nasty you could be sat in bath and get an electric shock you could die!!! hope you get this problem sorted mate. one more thing you may be looking at a £100-£200 to get it all tested out but sound like you need it doing !! L33
im also a sparky and no offence mate but you cant be that good a one? ive seen this problem many times beofre and its nothing to do with a live cable? if it was a live cable he wud def know about it. if a live was touching a pipe there would be noises of arking, and you would be able to smell it most times its a neutral problem where a small current passes on the return path. and because most places use a PME system where on the incoming supply the neutral and earth are combined, if there is a fault or current on the neutral it can come back down the earth hense if his pipes are bonded will get a small shock from pipes. if his pipes have been bonded the chance of the potential getting to the pipes is minimal as the pipes are classed as a extranious conductive part so could only become live under a fault condition. the difference between a mains shock and a shock on the ruturn path is huge
