patrikbrunt
Well unfortunately today I had my first breakdown in a supra Was on a dual carriageway on the way towards Yeovil, slowed up for a roundabout, quite a long queue, had my music up quite loud and as I came off the brake to roll forwards nothing...realised the car had cut out tried restarting and nothing. So wacked the hazards on, pushed the car as far onto the verge as possible (I was in lane 2) and phoned my local garage to arrange recovery. As i've just fitted a Walbro fuel pump at the weekend, immediately am thinking something has come loose with that and caused the car to cut out. Anyway got the car towed backwards to the garage which luckily im quite friendly with so they let me use their tools to whip off the inspection cover and check over the fuel pump wiring...all looks fine at the top... unplugged and removed the hoses and whipped out the pump assembly...again all looking fine. So we tested the pump with a battery in the workshop, running live to the plug at the top of the hanger and the pump whirrs away so obv all working fine. Rules that out? So put it all back together and try it again just for fun and it fires up first time, and ive since done a 30 mile trip in it (cautiously!!) So now im left in the situation where im not 100% sure why it cut out in the first place, and everywhere I go from now on am going to be worried about it doing it again!! Am thinking maybe change any fuel system relays as a precaution? What would you guys suggest?? Sorry for jabbering on a bit..
AlanM
Its a bummer when that happens. My Capri stopped running 3 times in the nearly 8 years I had it without any explanation ever being found
miko_supra
Not sure if supras can suffer from a vapour lock?
j80leo
Just one thing did you try starting the car while it was in drive as it will not start in gear it has to be in neutral or park
patrikbrunt
Just one thing did you try starting the car while it was in drive as it will not start in gear it has to be in neutral or park Yeh tried restarting it in neutral and nothing. I left if for 5/10 mins or so whilst waiting for the tow truck and tried it again, it started, ran for a few seconds and then died again? most peculiar. Ian C
Mine used to have an issue where it'd not start, and it turned out to the be the connector plug on top of the fuel pump cage. There was a poor connection there which meant while I could measure 12v across it, there was a big resistance sucking the life out of the power source to the point where sometimes it wouldn't spin the pump. Only ever manifested at the point of trying to start the car though, it never ever cut out while the engine was running. Might be worth refurbing the pins/contacts in that plug though, there are only 5 of them. It does sound like a dodgy wire though and if you've been working in that area it's the #1 suspect. Next time it happens you can listen for the pump spinning up or even do the FP +B diagnostics port bridge to manually kick the pump into life, see if that makes it all work. -Ian
patrikbrunt
Thatd certainly make sense, am hoping I just didnt have the plug properly located at first and it worked loose enough to just break the circuit, and then when I removed and reinstalled I connected it properly. Only time will tell I suppose, it has been fine since Tues morning
Guest nickbirt
As an ex AA patrol, I can assure this kind of thing happens daily. The amount of breakdowns I went out to where the car started first time is unreal. I know this offers no real explanation to your problems but if it aint broke done fix it!
