Hp!!

Just got my laptop back from HP after a keyboard repair and guess what, first it seems to still have the existing problem, and two, the bloody wireless LAN doesn't work!

For any experts, maybe you can diagnose, the keyboard problem is intermittent and only occurs on the left hand side of the keyboard, it acts like i have hit enter or tab, you suddenly find yourself typing in the middle of your last sentence, or the cursor has disappeared off the page:(

They appear to have replaced the keyboard (does that include the board sensors?) i presume/hope so?

They have also replaced the system board, and updated the bios?

Does your keyboard have a nipple on it? i.e a mouse nub in the middle? Sometimes that has a bad connection and can cause that - hence the cursor move.

Otherwise I'd suggest it's got a bad connection somewhere and something's grounding out if they have replaced the keyboard. Loose ribbon cable somewhere?

I sometimes catch the touchpad with the bottom of my hand while I'm typing which can make the curser jump. You could try covering the pad with something then try typing to see if the curser still jumps. Anything more technical than that and I'm beaten, I'm afraid.

Still does it even if i lock the touchpad, its almost like i'm hitting the keys to hard sometimes, although i,m not that heavy handed, all the keys work OK, its just that the cursor just reappears at a random place in a previously typed sentence:(

Think I'll just have to live with it, only got i back this morning and now its going back again tomorrow due to not being able to turn on the wireless, doesn't give me much confidence, bloody warranty runs out next month.

They definintely did something wrong in the repair centre it seems. How long have you had this computer and how many repairs have you had say within the last year. Some companies offer you a 6 month warranty on that part after repair so hopefully if something happens out of warranty it will be sorted for you.

Update, this is turning into a complete nightmare!

My laptop went back again due to the wireless LAN not working after the keyboard repair, phoned the warranty repair centre this morning, only to find they still have a problem and apparently the service centre need to talk to me.

So I'm given the number, and they want to know why I'm calling them direct:taped: only to find that they seem to think that the wireless is working fine, and they think its software related, and since i was instructed that i don't need to send the hard drive back, i now have to wait until it comes back to me me, so i can send it back with the HD!!!!:bang:

Now I'm no PC buff, but if it was working perfectly well when it was sent back for the original repair, then surly it should still work, even if they did a bios update!?

So now i have to back up the complete HD and wait for them to cock something else up!

Phoned the complaints dept and logged my displeasure, and guess what my main PC is giving me grief:drown:

Tricky if its a wireless issue i'll see if i can help you out. The only way the repair centre can test the wireless card is to test it on their wireless network if it works fine on their network then they see no problem. Wireless is a pain as lots of things can lead to this problem but if it worked fine in the repair centre it must be some software or your network at home causing it not to work . its very strange though that it worked fine before it went in for repair.

Did HP say you could hold onto the hard drive? They definintely should of told you that if they can't find a fault they will need your hard drive!

Yes it all worked fine before it went for repair, i really can't see it being a software issue as, there is no option to switch the WLAN on or off in the bios, (never checked before though as i never needed to)

The Windows mobility software and the HP wireless helper both have the option to switch on the wireless greyed out, all the drivers are there and report no problems, they have changed the system board and upgraded the bios, so to me it doesn't make sense.

Yes when i booked the repair, the guy on the phone said yes keep the hard drive as we don't need it.

I have now made a formal complaint via phone, and if i can find an email address for complaints then i will also put it in writing.
