Havard
I have two TV's at home, they are both 720p HD ready. This week our DVD player packed in..... It was just a cheap one form Asda. I now want to buy a couple of DVD players today but is it worth me getting one with HDMi upscaling to 1080p?? Or is the fact that the TV is 720p not going to make any difference?? I don't really understand all this crap but I want to get the best possible picture on each TV when we watch a film. Your help would be greatly appareciated...... H. Havard
The response is overwhelming...FFS!!
Mike
I would go for the upscaling to future proof them a bit... it's doesn't make a huge amount of difference but worth it for the small amount you pay for it.

Cheers Mike..!! Is it also better visually through a HDMI cable rather than a scart?? In hindsight I should have just rang my local TV shop to get their opinion but there seemed to be quite a few people on here who know about TV's...... H. Mike
I can't say I've properly compared them to be honest... my XBox and HD-DVD player(!) through component leads into my tele (which is 1080p), and my surround sound dvd does up-scaling and that uses HDMI... I don't think I have any scarts in there apart from the Sky box? The Xbox upscales too from the HD-DVD drive I think?... erm... now I'm confused.. I'd probably go for HDMI as when up upgrade your tele to 1080p (or whatever the latest standard will be!?) you'll still be able to use the HDMI lead... everything seems to be moving to HDMI... the leads aren't cheap mind.. Sorry about the garbled reply... hopefully there is something of use in all of that!?
Pete
I'm not sure what the benefit of upscaling to 1080 will be over 720. I guess it depends upon the logic algorithms the DVD player implements in its upscaling process - I'd think that'd be more important than the actual resolution. RiceRocket
Don't fancy going straight to the Blu-Ray player? Dunno if they're still doing it but Blockbuster were selling a decent Sony one with some 6(?) top titles like Iron Man, WallE, Hancock thrown in for less than £200. Check your Asda store too if you like cos they're doing something similar for a lower price (£175?)
Pete
HDMI is digital, SCART is analogue cable. Therefore you'd expect HDMI to cost more and be better quality.
