hodge
I'm putting my battery in the boot due to a larger intake can someone tell me if 4 gauge power wire is sufficient for this as it's a larger core than the standard battery cable. If not could someone point me in the right direction offl what to use please. Thanks in advance.
Amir khan
hi mate, I done this on my rover 220. I used 4 gauge wire. and in the engine bay i had a power distributer (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1169/1311711750_d57cfff2bd.jpg) run then cable under the carper, to the spare wheel well. then added a fuse before the battery. and eathed it to a nut in the boot. Il get pics up 2mrw

tooquicktostop
Use a thicker grade than stock, especially if you are running additional gauges, ICE etc, I also would suggest running the cable under the car in the brake line ducting as we did with mine, you dont really want the battery cable in the car cabin IMO
colsoop
John Check what amperage the cable will take. I think i used 40mm battery cable (rated for 300amps) When i did mine i cut the large battery terminal off and connected it in to a distribution block, then fed the cable out of the other end of that. in to the car and in to a large capacity fuse block then on to the battery. I got everything i needed from here: http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.php If you go the distribution block route i still have one of them left you can have if you like. paul mac
i used welding cable on mine, it has thicker insulation that normal cable as its designed for rough handling, the last thing you want is it chaffing and shorting to the body
jevansio
Thread resurection I've got my battery in the boot & have been advised to use a fuse. I've put a 30amp fuse in a fuse holder in the boot beside the battery. My work colleagues say that this isn't good enough as a starter motor draws big current and will pop it as soon as I crank it. Is this correct? Do I run a seperate unfused wire for the starter? Any help appreciated
jevansio
Just doing some searching for myself on the link Col posted, is this an acceptable setup? 1. 250amp Mega Fuse (it's the biggest they do) 2. Mega Power Fuse Holder I believe the cable that runs to the battery currently is: 475 475/0.40 mm2 = 60 OD = 14.5mm 415amp £8.81 Is this suitable? Is it the same spec as 4 gauge? paul mac
from memory the main fuse is 120 -130 amp, all you need to do is duplicate the main fuse in the front end fuse box, i would pop out to the garage to have a look but i'm sat comortably with a glass of red (again) so cant be arsed

steve spedd
bump, is it worth someone (Rob or Paul) sticking a list of what is required and where they ran the wire etc (if they would be kind enough, club spirit etc) as this seems like something several people, including myself would be interested in doing...
