supraszr Posted January 15, 2009 Share Posted January 15, 2009 There is a chance I need to get a new Gearbox, what is the usual cost for one of these recon or second hand low mileage? mine is leaking, clunks occasionaly and has started to rattle when turning off the engine. Im not convinced it needs replacing may be repairable if it is that, the rattle sounds like a loose heatshield but cannot locate where its coming from. The rattle tends to happen when the car has warmed up. The Oil is V160 so im real confussed by the problem. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

kylestt Posted January 15, 2009 Share Posted January 15, 2009 It could vary well be the release bearing, which is about 60GBP. I know its alot of work to pull the transmission to try it, but it sure beats spending the cash on a new/used transmission. And regardless its worth while to replace the release bearing. And if you have that apart, i'd put a new pilot bushing in the back of the crank. This is where the input shaft on the tranmission goes into the crank.
