Chris Wilson
I fitted a genuine TRD plate type LSD yesterday to Syed Shah's Soarer twin turbo. What an awesome difference it made. I am 110% sure that a Supra TT will benefit similarly, and I am now geared up to do LSD swaps and have made a setting jig to measure preloads and backlash when assembling the diffs. Forget that poxy Torsen, you NEED a plate tyep LSD for proper traction I may be able to organise a group buy on them too.
Keith C
Hiya Chris. Can you give a brief 'LSD's for dummies' guide as to how/why plate LSD's are better, so that the know-nothing numpties like me know why they're better? I would ask for a 'how to convince your wife it's a good idea' guide, but as she's on this board more than me I don't think it'll work

MONKEYmark
chris can you fit them into a standard no lsd diff? i did not have a lsd on my car when i got it and have since had fitted a UK auto LSD onto my JAP auto, from having no LSD on the supra to a LSD is a big improvement. so would like to know too about how much better a TRD LSD would be on a supra. thanks
Miguel
Yeah they are a good mod . And the jig comes in handy
Guest Cosmic Chaos
a clutch-type LSD is better than a Torsen LSD only for two reasons: 1) better straight line traction 2) less "delicate" than torsen for ALL the other reason, torsen is better (smoothness, riding quality in spirited driving, MUCH more predictive when rear end is losing grip, ...) that's the reason i LOVE my Torsen diff
Syed Shah
Holy shit! I agree with CW! It is awesome! Stright line traction = x2 as good, just squats and goes! BUT, the REAL difference is CORNERS! It simply goes in and out much quicker with little fuss! And if pushed, the back end of the car comes out beautifully! I really am amazed! Worth the price, and no more single tire marks out of roundbouts! Very happy! Thanks Chris!
Scoboblio
I may be able to organise a group buy on them too.
Gamer
Heya Syed... I assume that your Soarer did not have the factory Stock LSD in her ? Can you point me in the direction of where you purchased the LSD and also possibly the cost of the install ? I could really use one considering the power that I am pushing now. Nic
These only fit in the 'Big' diff though dont they Chris ???? Dude TRD do 2 different LSD's for the Supra, the first is for 93-96 TT 6 speed manual, the other for 97+ NA & TT manuals. The 97+ LSD needs new drive shafts fitting also. Don't think there is an option for auto diff.
Guest Terry S
You can get both sized diff. These are more of a handful in the wet BTW guys

Matt Harwood
These are more of a handful in the wet BTW guys For anyone used to 'old school' cars, it's very similar to how the high powered mk2 Escorts/Capri's used to handle when they had LSD's fitted. (obviously the Supra has a little bit more power!) IMO, very good. Bit scary at first, but cool once you get used to it.

Syed Shah
No Cosmic, a TT Soarer with open diff to the TRD. Oh, and I have a direct comparison to the Torsen in the TT Supra. The TRD is better, simple as that, though of course the difference v Torsen is smaller than difference v an open diff. Yes, there is a TRD diff for auto Supras/Soarers. My Soarer is an auto. It is more snappy, I have not tried in proper wet weather, but in the damp I definately agree with Terry. Though as long as you bear it in mind, it is nothing to worry about. Terminator
So the comparison you are making is UK manual Torsen to Soarer auto TRD. Sounds good.
