AdzC
I've checked but my box is so old that it can't support these features - I signed up when Sky+ first came out, annoying really because newer subscribers got more for the same money and I'm having to pay for a new box just to get the features they offer now. It was worth a try. I have had my Sky+ box since December 2005 and Anytime just appeared on it one day. Out of interest who manufactured your box? michael
It's a Pace, original PVR1 type, BSKYB3000 I think, you need the PVR2 boxes from Pace or Amstrad (and others?) to be able to get the anytime / remote recording etc AFAIK. Could well be right there Michael. Mine is an Amstrad box which would explain it.
michael
the new HD boxes only have a HDMI output now, not Componant afaik so make sure you can view the box if you are getting one Just a quick update, the HD box was installed yesterday and came with the option of HDMI or the conventional scart approach to things - not sure if this applies to all the boxes Sky do but it did for my Samsung. Engineer called the night before to say when he was coming and arrived at that time, replaced the LNB and cables and even tuned the remote in to operate the TV volume. Really pleased with how it went really, chap was really good unlike some I've had from Sky before, he even left his mobile number so I could call him direct for any issues - although he did confess this was so he could get his bonus if I didn't moan I'm still on a non-HD TV but the picture looks better than before (signal strength and quality are showing higher readings now), menu speeds are vastly improved and I should have the anytime TV stuff available if it downloaded last night so I'm pleased with the update from the old box. Old box was left with me, not really sure what to do with it now though, I didn't want it making into a multiroom box because when the time comes I want a newer one. So all in all a thumbs up, I just need HD TV at some point to get the full benefit, for now I'm just happy with the blue lights on the front of the box. tDR
The problem is now your viewing card is paired with the new box - so when you try to view the recorded stuff on the old box, it won't let you since the viewing card is effectively the key You could phone the call centre and have them pair it up with the old box again then do the same thing to go back to the new box but hardly ideal. Cheers, Brian.

It's OK, the old box only has a few movies on it anyway, a couple of classics and a couple of newer ones, nothing that won't be on again
michael
Note: If, like me, you are suckered into a HD box by their sales people but don't actually have the ability or desire to subscribe to HD right now the Anytime TV side of things becomes near useless. If something is available in HD they send it to you in that format even if you don't subscribe - so if you like Lost for example you won't get the normal one, you get the HD and then it tells you to upgrade so you can watch it. So despite them knowing what I subscribe to and being able to tell me what I can and can't see they are unable to dictate what anytime records because the box "asks" for HD apparently. Not a massive issue because normal people would bookmark and record things they want to watch later anyway but something to consider if they try to flog you a HD box when all you want to do is update your normal SKY+ one. Ace
So despite them knowing what I subscribe to and being able to tell me what I can and can't see they are unable to dictate what anytime records because the box "asks" for HD apparently. Without meaning to gatecrash this thread, but I have Sky+ HD (with an HD TV linked up to it), and my Sky box still displays a message advising that the HD format is not supported. It has done this with regular programmes, Anytime viewing and on occasions, programmes recorded onto the hard drive. Sky's technicians are unable to troubleshoot, merely passing it off as a glitch in the system. Which, of course, doesn't help when you have to keep pushing "back up" to remove the error message on screen. Has anyone else come across this yet? It would seem that, a la Microsoft with Windows, Sky occasionally enjoy pushing out their latest front-running technology before ensuring that everything is ironed out. Oh, and they refused point blank to remove our old Sky+ box.
