What do you know about the 89 / 90 year Arrows A11B Tony, anything?

 

Unfortunately it was before my time, so really nothing. :(

I might be being blonde but,

FWF? Front Wing Flap?

RCD? :shrug:

 

FWF = Front wing flap

RCD = Rear Central Diffuser

 

So when can we expect to see it? And what parts have you worked on?

 

We're launching in March I believe it is. Although strictly speaking my role isn't to work on the cars themselves at all, but due to staff shortages I actually did all the initial surfaces for the car just over a year ago. So literally everything from the nose through to the RIS (Rear Impact Structure). In fact I drew the first 7 concepts I think it was by the time I managed to pass on the work on in April, but I think we got up to something like version 28 by the time we released the final surfaces, so I doubt very much that little if any of my original surfaces have made it to the car.

I'm in charge of Aeromechanical R&D. Basically improving the capability and efficiency of the wind tunnel and any other test equipment used in evaluating and improving the aerodynamic package. (Just using big words to make it sound impressive :p)

 

However I spent many years surfacing bodywork and designing the scale models used in wind tunnel testing which is why I keep being asked to help out when they run short of design resource. Hopefully that's a thing of the past nowadays though....

Well hopefully it'll allow him to guide the McLaren road car project.

 

I do wish that there wasn't so much politics in motorsport though, particularly F1. Whilst some of the drivers have a keep sense of sportsmanship the teams and what goes on behind the scenes does not :(

Sad to see Ron is stepping down but his focus is on the "group" now which needs him more than ever. F1 is going to get tough financially going forward and they need to concentrate on other aspects of business now.

 

Whitmarsh is a very capable guy, I'm sure he'll do well.

And if that wasn't shocking enough...McLaren are in trouble...Wind Tunnel results have led them down the wrong path, haven't been within a second of the Ferrari's for 2 weeks.

 

Hehehehe, It shows I don't keep up with F1 all the time :), just thought of Honda on my way up to my dad's as I drive past the premises on the A43.
