IT Course advice

CJ

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has gone back to the UK and is looking to do this course http://www.adventtraining.co.uk/it-courses/master-ciw-designer-course/

He is asking for advice and I said I would post here for comments. Apparently it is 2k pounds. Is it any good?

Looks a little too generalised from a potential employer perspective, I would like to see a more specialised resource that can do what I need, rather than 'being aware of' type skills.

My advice would be to choose a web development platform to train up in and then stick to it. A quick search / call to recruitment agencies would confirm current market demand and best rates of pay.

£2k is not cheap ...

I forgot to mention that he is looking to relocate out here to Kos after the course - although with a population of just 25k people the job market is rather limited.

The best courses I have been on have been week long classroom based where you all have to do the same thing, so everybody learns the same thing. Employers now want you to prove that you can , rather than that you used to / heard of.....

Learning Tree courses are quite cost effective ...

Web designers dont work in offices these days ... they work wherever they want to :)

So base yourself in Kos with clients in the US and get paid in Euros....

You need to get into the virtual world :D

probably do  wheres a good palce to start?

As for the course, CJ, what does this person actually want to do? Is there a market for high end IT skills in Kos? Look at what is available and what he would like to do, then consider studying for it. A lot of these courses are very expensive and do not really teach you that much. You also tend to forget a lot if you are not practising/using daily.
