Samurai446
Hey guys and gals. Ive got my full decat pipe and restrictor ring for my J-Spec TT Manual. I wanna get it fitted today, but i need to know whether i NEED a boost controller? Will the restrictor ring stop it overboosting and damaging the engine, or do i need a boost controller as well? Cheers
Willson
Boost controllers only raise boost - you dont need one Get the decat fitted with the restrictor ring and see what boost you get - you want 1 to 1.2 bar (I assume you have a gauge). Cars vary and the ring may need to be filed out to raise the boost - remember you will make more boost in the colder weather, so you might want to take this into account. Samurai446
Cheers matey. Just had it done along with a blitz supersound blow off valve. Valve sounds good, sounds better when bonnets open. But having problems with decat. I reckon it sounds too loud and i'm suffering backfiring problems. Reckon i'm just gonna get it taken off
Willson
Backfiring is normal and good So is loud Backfiring is just unburnt fuel in the exhaust getting hot. (as I understand) You could get a pipe to replace just one cat and put the other back if its too loud I guess. Most people seem to like the noise though
Samurai446
the noise was ok, i didnt think the backfiring was good though. Cheers for clearing it up though.
Chris Wilson
Backfiring is NOT normal, nor good!!!!
Willson
I assume he meant popping in the exhaust. Seems to be pretty common ?
Willson
Well a quick search revealed some supra owners talking about it here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=17274 They seemed quite happy, but maybe ignorance is bliss. Heres Chris's thoughts in another thread. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=20978 Do a search for 'popping' for more. Looks like fitting a colder grade plug is in order. Sorry for confusion.
