Paul
Hi all, I know there are some members in and around Milton Keynes and thought I'd ask for a bit of local feedback on an area I'm considering moving to. The area is 'Furzton', sort of South West MK, what's it like round this way in terms of chavs / crime / local shops etc? I currently live in Herts but can get something really good up MK way compared to down here, I work in Dunstable so not much in it travel wise Any feedback appreciated, don't know the area at all but wouldn't want to move and find myself in the middle of a ghetto;)
Carl_S
I been to MK a few times and found it to be souless. But I hear the clubs are good and the women are fast and loose. Bear in mind I come from Watford, so It's not a million miles from MK, but it does seem like a world apart. BTW, I live in a ghetto, and have only positive things to say about them. SupraStormRising
I live and work in Dunstable, value for money is good in Dunstable as long as you buy in west dunstable! Most of MK is stab land thus why the properties are so dirt cheap!

Most of MK is stab land thus why the properties are so dirt cheap! West Dunstable is OK, the rest of it is a sh*t hole:) Some mates from work went out on the town and got jumped by about 15 teenage kids trying to get cash and phones, got a right kicking as there were so many of them. I might add that I'm 42 and my mates are similar ages and weren't out for trouble. Carl, like the idea of the women being fast and loose Again, due to my age I'm probably not looking for the same things in a place to live as you. Watford is OK but not my cup of tea, I've lived in Hemel all my life so not really in a position to comment I guess?
Carl_S
Paul, I am sure you have more sex-appeal than me old-timer. Women love a sense of humour, and I am in the dark ages in that respect. I know hemel quite well, thought property was quite cheap there in comparison to watford. The women there are more "countrified" and nicer in my opinion, not that you care of course. Watford has places of amazing beauty too. Cassiobury park, the wildness of croxley moor, and the beauty of the modern architecture and the buzzing vibe at the Harlequin shopping centre. Paul
As you say Watford is dearer than Hemel, Hemel is dearer than MK though. Hemel women being more 'countrified', dunno about that mate:D Good and bad women like most towns, I'm looking for a good looking bad one though;) Hemel used to suit me years ago, seemed fine when I was in my late teens/early twenties but now most of my old mates have moved on and it's just seems it's not like it used to be:( Maybe time for a change? Branners
I thought the 'locals' might have popped up but they havent. I have spent a fair bit of time in Milton Keynes for one reason or another. Furzton seems okay, its right by a big lake and the Milton Keynes Bowl if I remember rightly. Its not one of the bad areas, but then most of Milton Keynes seems okay compared to bits of Watford and Hemel. House prices are okay, but not as cheap as you would expect being that far outside London. Milton Keynes is a lot more about lifestyle. You really can cycle and walk everywhere, mostly without going on a road. Lots of places to go for families and the trains are good for London. Drawbacks are that its a little souless and the houses are almost all new build with appropriately sized gardens. I would happily move there, the roads are great, the lifestyle seems okay and generally it seems an okay town.
Carl_S
lol, well I bow my head to your greater knowledge on the subject, this opinion was formed after one night of clubbing rather than your permanent residence in the town. Change for change's sake? Sounds a good a reason as any. My moustache, born also for change's sake, tells me you are right. Definitely an idea worth flirting with. Is your house too small for you then?
tony tt
The shopping centre is good there too its massive and the indoor snowboarding place xscape is really cool if you love roundabouts its the place for you
Paul
Cheers, as you say this thread was aimed at locals but they haven't appeared:( Souless, well when you get older then that's not so much of an issue, the house we're looking at is about 11 yrs old but has loads of garden and takes up a fair bit of land, all the houses in the area are unique which is another plus. As you say the prices aren't dirt cheap but reasonable compared to round here and more for the money.

Is your house too small for you then? You mad arse Houses are always too small aren't they? Another plus is I'd rather walk the dog round a lake in the summer, minutes away, than round the dreary streets of Hemel.
tony tt
I lived in mk for a year mate and had no trouble the walks and things are good its a nice quiet spot for dogs and kids etc as long as your away from the main drags. the traffic is fairly calm aswell its laid out not too bad its like a big grid theres loads of ways you can go and end up in the same place so jams are rare. good luck
Carl_S
Yes Paul, a strong point for moving out of Hemel, no lake. Water holds an attraction to me too. As far as houses are concerned, yes a bigger can be better for the housing ladder thing, but for me bigger will never be big enough, so I settled on a small cottage. Could not afford much else anyway. Love it though, and neigbours cats seem to like it too, visiting it through my cat flap.

med
i live in MK, and with regards to the chav-ness in furzton, it really depends on where you live in furzton i.e. if you move right near the lake or not. i have seen a few chavs there when going to see a mate of mine who lives near the lake, even spoke to a few of them, and they didnt seem too bad. have you looked into the 'Shenleys' in MK, i.e Shenley Church End, Shenley Brook End, Shenley Lodge and Loughton? as they are (personally) generally the nicer places in MK. mehdi
Shadow Beast
hi Thought i would just give you some info, i lived in bedford for a long time, now llive in rushden, neither is to far from milton keynes, and i have been going there for a while, although only really to shop or club (few years ago) like any town there are ones to stay away from as MK does seem to have loads of small communities. If you like roundabouts then thats fine cause the bloody place is full of them! and like pointed out already you can get almost anywhere via walking or bike. i will ask the wife about where your looking at because she spent 7 years working in criminal law in MK so will i am sure know the places not to move to. Class One
Paul, you can apply for a Freedom of Information Act request of the Police who can provide crime figures for any area you want to move to. You can also refer to http://www.upmystreet.com/ for info as well.

Not too bad around where I am at the moment, not crime free but OK. Going to pop up MK at the weekend and see what it's like.

Shadow Beast
Just a bit of info for you, furzton is ok, not much crime from what she remembers, bradville is the hot spot for that, MK though on general has quite a high rate of theft from and of motor vehicles, so you may find your premium will go up, Hope this helps Richie
