Scott
Just a small word of caution for Axle: if you delete your recovery partition (assuming your laptop has one, most do these days), you'll make it difficult for yourself to re-install the original operating system (e.g. Windows XP) without you having to buy a new license. Well, not "difficult" But yeah, if your not used to recovery partitions and installing OS's its probably best to leave it.. just in case
Axle
If you're having to ask the above questions, you probably shouldn't do. You're about as helpful as itching powder on a yeast infection. Stevie, Scotster -
Scott
New version out folks. Running it now, its soooooo much better on my laptop than the previous one. I got it through other means though. Not sure if it can be downloaded via the microsoft website, haven't even looked.
grahamc
I am also running build 7100 now on my work laptop and build 7000 on my home desktop. Both are much quicker, especially the boot sequence! Running CS4 on the desktop and CS4, SQL 2008, Office 2007, etc on the work laptop.
Alex
I'm impressed with what I've seen, I hear the RC1 (Build 7100) is on a 365day license so you'll get a year free to decide if you're willing to pay for it I've only got 7000 at the moment and I'm impressed. It's, as said, Vista looking but so much less complicated and slicker. Seems that M$ has confirmed that Vista was a pile of sh1te, way to heavy and confusing. Still I had to laugh when Win7 asked for a 10Gb partition minimum...can't be THAT light weight LOL. After patching to death, I've use 14Gb up on a clean install of the 64bit edition. Does anyone have data on the 64bit edition's 32bit games playing performance?

I could have sworn that when I did a defrag, I saw 29gig used which is basically OS and Office  Very impressed with it so far! Nice and flash, relatively simple to use and quite speedy! I get MSDN through my work and we also cover our home PCs under that

imi
For those of us trying out windows 7 RC be aware of the following: quite shocking
Scott
Little update: Full version has been out for a couple of weeks now. I've been running it on my laptop (32-bit) and, just recently, my desktop (64-bit). I'm very impressed with it all, it has all the nice little quirks that vista brought without all the crap and crazy requirements. A very very nice addition to this is streaming to the PS3. I am now streaming content to the PS3, wirelessly, that was very jittery before (full 1080p Star Wars lol). I've only just started testing it but it looks good just now

Pete
It's much better....but it's not "The world's most advanced operating system. Finely Tuned"
Scott
Is the Mac OS more advanced? Never really used one to know.
imi
It's much better....but it's not "The world's most advanced operating system. Finely Tuned" tell me about it.....Mac OS has had this functionality for years. Cant believe they are making a big deal about resume times - MACs resume in a second and have done for years.........LOL Would be nice for MS to be an innovator for a change - I think they did it with surface, but thats about it in recent years...... Pete
To be fair it *is* a huge improvement and runs much better than Vista. It's more like XP with the nice new features. Now all they have to do is sort out that God awful ribbon bar - I'm still hunting for buttons and functions that I knew where to locate in every other version of Office! imi
couldnt agree more - office 2007 from a usability perspective has been a complete nightmare.
Wez
MS have never come up with their own ideas, its always stolen and then when the originator gets wind they normally buy it.
